3 Amen Fuer Den Satan - ( Italy 1971, by William Redford ) Original Title: LA VENDETTA E UN PIATTO CHE SI SERVE FREDDO. Aka "Vengeance Trail" or "Vengeance is a Dish Served Cold". A Spaghetti western. A beautiful Indian woman ( Elisabeth Eversfield ) is captured by an outlaw gang and kept on their ranch in a kind of "harem". One evening the chief commands her to sleep with one of his guests (Klaus Kinski). The gang wakes up to Kinski's cries and curses, and catches the fleeing girl in the yard. She has scratched Kinski's skin with her fingernails. The next day she gets her punishment, watched by Kinski and the others. With the arms widely spread, her wrists are tied to a wooden fence, while she is told what awaits her. Her dress is torn open. She is bull-whipped very hard from behind. Before each lash, the man swings the long, heavy whip like a lasso, giving the tail a high speed. You hear the hissing and the sharp cracks, and her moans become more and more intense. Some shots of her front, face and back at the right moments. After 8 lashes, the scene is interrupted by an arriving stranger

58 Bridge Street - A porno movie from Britain that features an Arabian actress who does it all. Has several long and excellent whipping scenes. Get more information.

99 Women - A blonde prisoner is whipped towards the end of this Jess Franco film. All of the lashes are off-screen. The victim has the back of her prison dress ripped off, but we don't see very much because it is dark.

Jekyll and Hyde - A soft core porn David Freidman production. In one scene, Hyde whips a woman all over her body. Many marks appear in various places and it is a fairly long scene. This kind of scene was almost obligatory in the early days of close to graphic exploitation cinema.

Adventures of Hajji Baba, The - Has a very brief foot-whipping scene.

Affair of the Necklace, The - 2001 film starring Hilary Swank as Jeanne St. Remy de Valois. There's a scene towards the end of this film where Jeanne gets the back of her gown ripped off and is whipped. This being a big budget Hollywood production, the scene is relatively tame and we don't even get to see her back as she's being whipped.

L’Affaire du Collier de la Reine - 1946 French drama based on the same story as "Affair of the Necklace". There's a production still of a whipping scene from this film and it appears that the scene in this one is much better than in the 2001 version.

Amazons of Rome (aka Slaves of Carthage)- A woman is tied to a post and lashed. Unfortunately, the whipping is stopped at one lash. She then has her top pulled down to expose her nude in public, but a bunch of guards surround her to protect her modesty. We get a couple of brief glimpses of her whip-marked back. This is a big budget Italian sword and sandal epic.

Angelique and the King - ANGELIQUE ET LE ROI (Fr/Ger/It 1965 by Bernard Borderie) A monarch from the far east visiting France shows Angelique (Michele Mercier) some of his "way of ruling": as they watch a basement hall, a woman is tied to a pillar and whipped savagely on her bare back. Intense screams but only few of the lashes are onsreen and are shot from about 10 meters away. The monarch says that the woman will receive at least 100 lashes. Many of the Angleique films featured a whipping scene. There may exist an uncut print that has some more action footage.

Angelique 2, This has a scene in which some prostitutes are whipped, though Angelique who is among them is spared. There are lots of beautiful women and the scene is quite erotic although short. The verisimilitude is definitely there in this scene.

Angelique and the Sultan - ANGELIQUE UND DER SULTAN (France 1965) ANGELIQUE ET LE SULTAN An old-fashion adventure movie. Michele Mercier in a sultans harem. She is whipped in public because she offended the sultan by spitting into his face: Her arms are tied up so the feet can just touch the ground. She is half topless so the strong whip marks on her back are visible. This is a pretty long scene. She receives 13 lashes (6 on screen) with 2 camera angles (front/back). The impact of the long whip sends her swinging back an forth. Sharp cracks and loud moans/cries. Afterwards she hangs exhausted at the rope, her head fallen back. A quite good scene.

Anna and the King of Siam - Not to be confused with "The King and I", although they both tell the same story. Has a scene where a woman's lover has been whipped. She refuses to admit any wrongdoing, so she has her bra-like top removed and is given one stroke before Anna stops the whipping.

Antonia & Jane (1991) - Woman plays a sex game with her lover, answer the question right or be whipped. Beats Chutes and Ladders any day.

Art of Dying, The- has a brief scene in which a prostitute is being whipped by a client.

Autumn Born- Murdererd Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten gets whipped several times in this film. 1. while handcuffed to a bed she is whacked with a stick on her back and bottom. 2. has the soles of her feet whipped. 3. whipped on her back while bent over on the ground topless. 4. Whipped on her ass while wearing a corset. Overall, the scenes are pretty good and this is definitely worth a look. She was an exceptionally beautiful woman by any standard.

Bad Girls - (1981) XXX Starring a very young Michelle Bauer in her X-rated days , under the name Pia Snow. Kind of a lame whipping scene , but what a body she has.

Bamboo House of Dolls - At the beginning of this Shaw brothers prison flick, all of the female concentration camp inmates are commanded to whip another Asian inmate to death. It doesn't take long, though, as she dies under the lashes of the second whipper, who then commits suicide. Quite gruesome as Chinese movies of this genre tend to be but the beginning of the scene where the victim is stripped is very nice.

Barbarians, The - Virginia Bryant is tortured by Michael Berryman in order to find out where the "magic ruby" is. He whips her back with a cat o' nine tails. Her hair is covering most of her bare back, but her acting is rather realistic. Later, we see some other girls tending to the whip marks on her back.

Barbed Wire Dolls - Jess Franco prison flick has a scene toward the end where a naked woman is tied face down and cropped lightly on her ass. It's supposed to be a torture scene, but it's kind of a yawn and pretty unrealistic. There are a few good scenes of Franco's wife, Lina Romay, tied face down to a metal wire frame and given electric shock treatment. I mention those because they are the only good scenes in the film.

Bare Behind Bars - aka Prison of the Dead.This prison flick lives up to its name,delivering a ton of naked chicks. However, the violence (including two whipping scenes) is really weak.

Bastard Out Of Carolina - A Showtime original movie about the physical and sexual abuse of an 11 year old girl (Jena Malone). She's whipped with a belt several times in the course of the movie. You hear some of them and you see one of them. She's shown from the front and she stands holding onto the bathroom sink while she's whipped. Later, when she gets drunk at a party and a relative tries to help her use the bathroom, you see that the backs of her thighs are welted black and blue. A very good, but disturbing movie.

Beastmaster - We do not see a whipping here, but Marc Singer pulls Tanya Roberts' blouse down by her shoulder, sees her whip marks and says "They whip you like a beast"

Belle De Jour - In the opening scene of this film, Catherine Deneuve is taken out into the woods with her husband. He orders two other men to tie her to a tree, strip her to the waist, and whip her on the back. A good, but very brief scene that turns out to be taking place in Deneuve's mind.

Beloved - a nude black slave is tied to ground and bullwhipped very savagely, we see only her face reactions for one lash but the scene is one of most "strong" we ever seen; later in two scenes we see her bare back covered with heavy scars. Oprah Winfrey stars.

Big Doll House, The - Pat Woodell gets whipped with a wet towel by a prison guard while chained high up in the air. Ms. Woodell is topless, but her hair covers her breasts. Short scene but worth a look.

Big Snatch, The - Lame, cheap David Friedman production has a scene where a group of girls are forced to spank another girl's bare bottom with a small piece of garden hose. Poorly acted and a bad job all around.

Bitter Rice - The film is about "rice-girls" who work the rice fields in the Po valley in Northern Italy. Among them is sexpot Sylvanna who constantly taunts and sexually teases the men in the valley. The women are all jealous of her and the men all want her. She finally goes too far with victoro Gasmann. After arranging a tryst with him, she just plays games and as he advances toward her she picks up a switch from a pile and pushes him away with the tip. Tiring of this he takes the switch away from her and begins to whip her with it. Unfortunately there is no baring of Miss Mangano's skin, and she is not tied as she is whipped nor is the swishing of the switch very audible. The redeemable aspect of this film is in the primal cries of pain and facial expressions of the victim as she backs away to escape the lashes. Likewise, the man's expressions become pure lust as he administers her comeupance. The scene fades and a rape is implied. The rest of the film is irrelevant except Miss Mangano straightens out and becomes his loyal mistress after the whipping. 14 or 15 lashes in all.

Black Narcissus - A clothed Indian girl is whipped by an old toothless hag with a tree branch.

Blind Cat - Don't know what the real Japanese title of this movie is. It appears to be one of the many direct-to-video Japanese adult crime thrillers. Bohemian Girl, The - This Laurel and Hardy film has a near whipping scene towards the end in which the title character is tied to a whipping post and has her clothing pulled down to expose her upper back. The whipping gets stopped, but the scenes of her tied to the post looking back in fear are still quite nice.

Botany Bay - An old woman is whipped as punishment after having a bit of the top of her dress ripped off. We hardly see any whipping, and even if we did it wouldn't merit a look. I just mention this because the video box makes it look like the lovely Patricia Medina is going to get whipped. She doesn't, so don't waste your money. Nice box cover, though.

Broken Blossoms - Lillian Gish is whipped by her abusive father in this sappy D.W. Griffith film.

Brothers in Arms - A heavily clothed girl (played by Dedee Pfeiffer, Michelle's sister!) is tied squatting on the ground and whipped by Roberts Blossom (the old man in Home Alone!). Her clothes tear open in a couple of places and we get to see the whip marks, but the whipping is stopped by another man, who ends up taking her place.

Cabaret - Liza Minnelli entertains the Baron in a nightclub where one girl whips another girl tied to a bedpost behind a screen, while another girl pours him champagne. It gave period atmosphere to the decadence of l930's Germany. An excellent film on all counts.

Caged Heat II - A bad women-in-prison movie with a great whipping. Jewel Shepard gets chained with her face to a wall, has the top of her prison dress ripped off, and is given over twenty lashes by a guard. Nicely acted, though the whipping and the whip are really fake looking. Later, we see a couple of girls treating the whip cuts - which now, of course, look completely different.

Congress Dances -(l931) the little glove maker (Lillian Harvey, an English women who spoke perfect German) is sentenced to be whipped on her bare behind, but is saved at the last minute by no less a personage than the the king himself (Willy Fritsch). The young man who was to give the whipping almost breaks into tears. This was, after all, a musical comedy and scenes of torture would have been out of place. This is, by the way is a very charming film.

Curse of the Crimson Altar - aka The Crimson Cult. Barbara Steele presides over the whipping of a woman tied face up and whipped over the front of her body. This scene is severely edited in many prints.

Creatures the World Forgot, The - two pretty cavegirls are stripped to the waist, laid on their backs and flagellated on their bare breasts by an old crone in a sort of ritual.

Creole Witch - In the steaming bayous of Louisiana a modern witch is whipped and otherwise tormented by a warlock in a struggle for supremacy. Cry of the Banshee - This is probably the only film that features cart-tail whipping that was so commonplace in England at one time. A woman convicted of witchcraft is branded, whipped through the streets of an English village, and then set in the stocks. When she's whipped, her shift is merely pulled down at the back, but for a couple of frames, one can see the garment slip off her shoulders, leaving her briefly naked to the waist. This is shown at a distance, and if you blink, you'll miss it.

Dangerous Beauty - Original Title: The Courtesan. In Venice of the 1600s, when the Holy Inquisition goes after the courtesan class that is prominent among the elite, we see three beautiful women bound to overhead beams in a public courtyard, their dresses ripped open in the back, showing bright red stripes from recent floggings which are not shown.

Death and the Maiden - Sigourney Weaver plays a woman who was tortured. In a nude scene early in the film, Sigourney is washing her face and we can see faint scars on her lower back. Not really a whipping scene, but interesting nonetheless.

Defilers, The - A sleazy nasty David Friedman production that is much better than you would expect. The closing scene has a kidnapped women being savagely beaten with a belt by one of the bad guys. Worth a look, though it is a bit disturbing.

DeSade - Has a scene where the Marquis (played by Keir Dullea!) whips a prostitute’s ass with a sword. There are several versions of this film. In some versions we get to see bloody marks and in others we don't. Either way, it's worth a look.

Destroy My Soul - Japanese nun film has several whipping scenes. In one, a nun flogs her own naked back at night. In another, two nuns fight it out with whips until they are too weak to hit each other again. Finally, a woman is tied with rose thorns and then brutally whipped with more thorns.

Demoness In Hell - A super-sexy hard core whipping video that features a magnificent Demoness enchained in a slave torture camp in outer space. Great stuff! More details here.

Detention Girls - Film with an excellent (and lengthy) whipping scene. Anyway, this thing is about a girl doing hard time for getting busted at a campus demonstration. At one point, another inmate splashes water on a guard and blames it on our poor heroine. She's taken to the basement, forced to strip, and tied with her arms spread wide. The warden comes down and whips her with a bullwhip for a very long time as she says things like "How do you like that?" and "I'll give you something to talk about!" Most of the whipping is shot from the front, which is actually good. The actresses’ reactions are among the best I've seen. While she's not a very good actress, she does a pretty good job during the whipping scene. After the whipping, she's taken down and is taken to the infirmary. Later in the movie, two other girls are paddled. And, towards the end, our heroine is beaten with a belt on her bottom by the prison doctor.

Diamond Ninja Force - Woman is whipped by a Ninja.

Dirty Angels - A fetish masterpiece featuring absolutely gorgeous women and scenes of extreme fetish behavior including some very sexy whipping. More details.

Django - (Western, Italy 1967 , by Sergio Corbucci): Loredana Nusciak is tied with spread arms to a wooden bridge, her dress is torn down from one shoulder, then she is whipped by the chief of a cowboy gang. German version: 4 lashes done very realistically including the sound. She squirms and cries under each lash. I also liked the tension slowly being built up: First you see her being dragged through the sand towards the bridge; when she is tied up, the chief tells her what is going to happen to her. The scene is at the beginning of the movie. The ORIGINAL ITALIAN version found on video has 10 lashes on screen showing Loredana from different camera angles.

Also has a scene where the movie's hero and a friend go to a house of ill repute where the madam presents a drama for them. The drama is an "anarchist" being punished in Csarist Russia. A nude woman is chained to a wall in some sort of dungeon, and another woman whips her with a flogger which draws "blood." That scene alone is worth watching the movie for.

Glitter Dome, The - In this lackluster cable movie, there is a scene in which James Garner and John Lithgow watch a porn film that they have confiscated. In the film, an "underaged" actress is tied naked to a frame and bullwhipped on her back by a man. The scene is very quick, but very nice.

Harem Slave -I found a tape made of some old Turkish movie about a slave girl becoming a harem woman. There's at least 3 whipping scenes: one dancer angers her master and gets whipped after lovemaking; the slave girl gets whipped by a slave auctioneer because she slapped a buyer; and the sultan's favorite whips the slave girl out of sheer jealousy. The title, as close as I can make out is "Harem Slave." Since the whole thing is in Turkish or Arabic, all you can do is sit back and enjoy - there's plenty of half-nude belly dancing as well.

Hell Mountain - It has been shown on pay-per-view a few times. A friend in Brazil sent this clip to me. The plot has something to do with a bleak (or not-so-bleak, depending on how you look at it) future in which women are captured and made to work in mines for some reason. A woman defies her mistress and is punished for it. She's stripped and suspended by other female prisoners, and the mistress gives her several lashes. The scene is mostly devoted to the preparation for the whipping. We never see her back, and we never see the whip make contact. Still, the woman is very attractive, and this is quite a good scene, if all too brief. Directed by Simandl who is the Eastern European answer to Jess Franco at his work. His films are tedious but all have some erotic content. Look for the one with Sable of wrestling fame.

Hercules and the Beast of Babylon - Three girls tied to crosses, facing their flogger and fully clothed .

Hiding Place, The - Pat Robertson meets Ilsa. In this Christian film, a woman is whipped off-screen by nazis. Very realistic sounds and screaming, but that's all we get. In another scene, a clothed woman is whipped by a Nazi guard.

Hiroku Nagaski Onna-Ro - Very similar to the film "Criminal Report." Has a couple of whipping scenes, but nothing is really shown.

Hitler's Children (aka The Hitler Gang) - Cute Bonita Granville gets tied to a post, has the back of her dress ripped, and is whipped for betraying the Nazis. The whipping is stopped by the hero after only a few lashes. Damn those heroes, always showing up at just the wrong time.

House of 1,000 Dolls - A prostitute wearing only a bra and panties is whipped on her back to extract information. Another girl is there, and she quickly stops the whipping by offering the information for fear that she will be next. Later, we see the whipped girl having her wounds treated in the background of a scene.

House of Whipcord - This is a pretty good film in its own right. The whipping scenes are pretty lackluster, though. In the first one, we see the victim from far away. The back of her prison uniform is untied and pushed off her shoulders, but the damn door closes before the whipping starts. In the second whipping, with a different victim, the girl's uniform is untied, but we only see her lower back briefly. The rest of the whipping scene shows her facial reactions, which are well acted. Later, we get to see the second victims whip marks as she is lying on a bunk bed; the old woman who whipped her gazes intently at her marked back in a creepy way. This is a great psychodrama that has been under appreciated due to its sleazy reputation and tawdry title.

The marks are unrealistic looking, and the whipping scene is pretty lame. Still, this is one of the cutest girls ever getting whipped in a film.

Il Figlio Del Corsaro Rosso (Italy 1959, by Primo Zeglio) - An old-fashioned pirate movie with Sylvia Lopez and Vira Silenti. In search of her brother's murderers, Lopez comes to the house of the evil governor of Panama. He tries to blackmail Silenti into marriage by forcing her to watch Lopez being whipped in his dungeon. Tied with spread arms to a large wooden cross, she is heroic and implores Silenti not to give in This is a pretty long scene showing beautiful Lopez most of the time, and giving a nice tension about what is in store for her. So her dress is ripped open at the back and her long red hair is placed in front of her shoulders. Then she gets about 10 lashes (half of which are onscreen, showing her from the back and side). In between, her dress is ripped apart a bit more, and the governor orders the torturer to continue harder. Eventually she faints. Some marks are visible, and her painful moans are pretty realistic.

Il fiore delle mille e una notte - by Pasolini - a young black slave is whipped by master, but we only hear the whipping and screams.

Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS - A woman is whipped alongside a man to show which of the sexes are stronger. This is a very bloody whipping scene, as the two are eventually whipped to death. Later, we see the dead victims hanging upside down. This is a real sick one.

Ilsa, Wicked Warden - A female inmate is whipped in one of the few Jess Franco movies that are actually watchable. The whipping is extremely fake, and the victim has some ugly eye make-up on her fact to make it look like an eye was gouged out. Still, the eye thing is mostly out of sight and her writhing is pretty cool.

Impalement - A brutal and sadistic team of Inquisitors whip and torture a young beauty before impaling her on a wooden spike. Take a look for yourself.

Ines the Novice - Has a scene in which a fellow nun strips and asks Ines to whip her. During the whipping, the nun asks to be whipped harder and harder. Faint marks appear on the nun's naked back. Finally Ines can whip no harder and stops. Later, Ines has a brief bout of self-flagellation for penance.

Invitation to Ruin - There is a whipping in the "dungeon scene" that is edited out of some prints. A girl is chained high in the air, and her arms are far apart. A fat old hag whips her all over. At first we see the girls back, but eventually she turns around and we see her front as well. Her entire body is covered with marks. It's a pretty good scene and it looks like the actress had to suffer a bit to make the scene work.

Island Women - Female island prison movie contains a couple of whipping scenes. In the best one, a nude woman is face down on a wire bed frame being wacked with a stick. In another one, we see a chained up woman being whipped in a cell.

Issa Valley, The - Both the movie and the book contain a scene, where a female charactertries to seduce a man. She is very unpleasant for him and her annoying behaviour causes him some troubles. Finally he whips her with a leather whip. As Milosz wrote, "she bit the pillow to prevent screaming, but she felt happy, as she knew that by flogging her he takes her in posession". This extremely patriarchal sequence is recreated in the movie with some care. The whipping scene does not actually look 'realistic' (it is seen from sideview, with the woman lying on a bed and the man standing above her), but the extremely patriarchal mood is present in the movie.

Jaded - only one lash eared in this movie from late 90's: a nude girl is whipped by another one with a chain, on a beach, after a terrible raping, while a man takes a movie, we also see some light scars on back.

Jane Eyre (1996) - Supposed to have the whipping of a schoolgirl in it, probably with a switch.

Joseph Andrews - an English film that seems to have been made in the 1980's. This filmed version of a Henry Fielding novel features a scene in which the heroine, a young upper class woman, is jailed on trumped-up charges. She has committed the "sin" of desiring to escape to happiness with her young lover (Kralahome is his name, I believe). Tuptim has been given this vision of freedom by Anna, who brought to Siam the American novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, for which Tuptim recently portrayed the escaping Southern black slave in a theatrical recreation of the drama for the King for his court's entertainment. The King is using Tuptim as an "example" for all - in his resistance and reluctance to change which Anna has brought to him. He ultimately drops the whip, softening before the pleas from Anna to resist beating the young girl.

A long birch switch of about five rods is held . We are close up on her face as we hear her breeches being removed, remember the birch needs to be across bare skin. Then we hear a swishing sound ,followed by a grimace of pain across her face. The birch goes on stinging after each stroke. A brief pause then another well measured stroke, then another. The scene fades from her face and squeals of pain to an exterior shot of the castle. Eight strokes having been heard on the sound track. We are not told how long the birching goes on for but later we see her in a crumpled heap, tears in her eyes, on the floor some at least of that defiance subdued . Her bottom which we know must be well marked is still smarting.

Lautarja - (possibly aka "Tabor Uhodit v Nebo" or "Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven." Dir. Emil Lotianou, Soviet Union, 1973. Tells about gypsy life. Love Camp 27 - Same basic no plot Nazi schlock as LC-7. Has one fairly gruesome scene where one girl is called out by her number for punishment. They beat her from neck to knees and there is plenty (relatively) of agonized reaction and bloody welts. The "star" of the film is quite pretty and is called up next, but unfortunately the commandant stops it before anything happens. Bummer. Still, it's not bad, considering.

Love Crimes - Patrick Bergan crops a topless girl who is acting like a horse. Nice scene, but very mild.

Nightmare in Badham County - Theatrical Version - In the theatrical version, which was shown overseas and on cable, a woman is stripped naked and whipped on her ass with a belt. Coffin Joe, writer, producer, director and main role actor of all his movies) have fake whipping scenes.

One Eyed Soldiers - Has a scene in which Luciana Paluzzi (Bond Girl and serious European beauty) is tortured. She is stripped to the waist and given a couple of lashes. We don't get to see much, but there are a couple of good shots of her bare back. Later, we get a pretty good shot of the marks as the hero unshackles her. Her acting is quite good and so is the scene.

Outcast, The - Joan Evens is held by her brothers and given 7 lashes by her father before she breaks free and as she turns we see the whip marks on the back of her dress. She verbally defies her her father and gets 2 more lashes before climbing a horse and escaping to town. The agent whips at her hands with the wire as she is forced to hold herself up by her fingertips. The tortured woman in this scene is likely not Linda Amendola, the actress playing the role. It's probably a body double since her face is covered and there's a body double listed in the credits.

Peking Opera Blues - Lengthy torture scene with Brigitte Lin. When we first see her she has already been treated to a session of the whip. She's fully clothed, but the back of her shirt has been ripped open in several places. A bucket of sand is then thrown on to her back. One of her torturers rubs his hand into to some of her wounds. Another set of lashes is applied, and a bucket of salt water is thrown on to her back, causing her to shriek loudly. Like the rest of the movie, this scene is artistic and well-done.

Pretty Baby - Brooke Shields is a child prostitute. When she tries to seduce the black son of one of the servants, the madame decides she needs a lesson and has one of them carry her out to the woodshed for a strapping. You hear the sound of 10 lashes and a couple small yelps, then Brooke comes stalking out and yells "It didn't even hurt!". When she turns to go, you can see that her nightgown is torn over her butt. Prisoner of Paradise (1978) XXX - On a dangerous mission, John stumbles upon a secret German prison camp. Punishment of Anne, The (aka The Image, The Mistress and the Slave) - Contains 2 very long and powerful scenes. A man she has been impolite to is seated in an arm chair. Ann is told by her mistress to strip, select a whip, is chained kneeling at the chair and whipped extensively as the man watches her reactions. A later scene is in a dungeon where Ann strips completely, wrists are tied overhead is tortured with needles by mistress then thoroughly whipped with a cat by the same man. This in one of those really good scenes that are few and far apart.

Punition - (Ausgepeitscht, Karin Schubert) What a great german title for a lousy film! Only one short whipping in the whole film, but Karen Schubert is always a pleasure to look at.

Quando i Califfi Avevano le Corna - it's a comedy with three scenes: in first and second a Caliph whips the girls he married the day before, to kill them the day after (like in "One thousand and one night tales"), they are nude; in the third scene another Caliph orders two prostitutes to be flogged with one hundred and ten lashes on bare bottom, while tied to a column: we get to see only nine lashes.

Rififi - Movie about a jewel heist gone awry. A decent film with a scene where a woman's dress is pulled down to expose her upper back and reveal the belt marks that her 'lover' gave her.

Robin Hood - Uncut 1922 version with Douglas Fairbanks. Has a whipping scene with one of the female citizens of Nottingham getting 4 or 5 lashes on her bare back after the new sheriff comes to town. Pretty bare and pretty graphic, especially considering the time.

Rollerblade 7 - Has a scene where a girl is whipped on her bottom while being held against prison bars.

The Roundup - Hungary 1965. A naked female prisoner is caned to death in a Hungarian prison.

Sacred Flesh - This artsy-fartsy 2000 production is a throwback to the lesbian nun movies of the seventies, with way too much pretension and not nearly enough sleaze. Still, there are a couple of decent (but brief) whipping scenes. In one, a nun flogs herself bloody. In a later scene, one nun whips another across her naked back.

Sahara - Brooke Shields gets a couple of lashes from John Rhys-Davies off-screen.

Salo - the last movie by Pasolini: there are several scenes of whipping, both male and female. The is one strange and illusionary film that defies accurate description.

Samson and the Seven Miracles - Good whipping scene. A beautiful young princess is tied to a whipping post, stripped to the waist and flogged across her bare back with at least 7 or 8 lashes (on camera) she then has salt water applied to her wounds with a feather. The entire scene is shot from the front. Great facial expressions and very believable screams.

Sankofa - This African film supposedly has whippings of both male and female slaves. The film is actually more social commentary than entertainment.

Sarah Balabagan Story, The - This true story concerns the Filipino maid sentenced to death in the United Arab Emirates circa 1993/4 and pardoned by President Sheikh Zayed Ibn Sultanal-Nahayan - but not before she had been given 100 strokes of the cane. The film was banned by President Ramos in the Filipines because the UAE protested that it showed their justice system in a bad light and it threatened diplomatic relations! A spokesman for Ramos at the time said that " the scene where Miss Balabagan was given 100 lashes was overdone because it showed a burly male guard flogging her with a large stick - ordinarily, if the inmate is female, then a female guard will perform the lashing" That explains it all.

Satan's Slave - The main character has a flashback to a priest (played by the film's author David McGillvray) presiding over the whipping of a supposed witch. The whipping is brutal and the woman's breasts are shown in the whipping shots. Quite shocking and exploitative but great fun.

Scacco alla Regina - Reputed to contain a female whipping scene.

The man overseeing the whipping orders it to continue. However, when he leaves, the whipper whips a long board instead - though the girl continues screaming as if she is really being whipped. It's a ridiculous scene, but not without its charm.

Secrets of Love -(segment titled The Spanking) Very attractive young woman is caned in this period piece, first by the male head of the household, then by her lover. 18 strokes are given to her bare bottom as she stands against the wall and are counted out by the woman of the house. Were guessing that this gal had a 3-lash-saved-by-the-hero clause in her studio contract, or mayby the same screen-writer.

Sex and Zen - There is a great whipping scene in this one. A Man whips his lover after she claims that she loves her husband as she gets whipped by him every day. The rest of the story is good too. Sexual Adventures of Cleopatra(?) - One of Cleopatra’s servants is accused of treason. She is made to walk on all fours between two rows of other beautiful servants wielding cat-o-nine-tail whips. She-Demons - A woman is whipped by a Nazi in this black-and-white bore. We don't get to really see any of the whipping, just the end of it. She dies, as does the rest of the film.

She-Wolf of Spillburg - A soldier holds a woman while a female commandant whips her back and buttocks with a short whip. No marks appear, but the whipped women does writhe quit a bit.

Ship of Lost Women aka Ship of Condemned Women or Ship of Lost Souls? - An Italian film (originally: La Nave Delle Donne Maldette), that unfortunately does not live up to its title. Shooter, The -This Michael Dudikoff vehicle has a scene similar to "Django." A prostitute has the back of her blouse ripped off and is whipped by bad guys until Dudikoff comes along and spoils their fun by blowing them all away. This is also probably the only film in the database starring country singer Randy Travis .

Slave of the Sword - In this neat little Asian number, a woman is whipped after biting the ear off of a man she was forced to have sex with. Nothing is shown in this one except her reactions. Later, though, she takes revenge and gets to whip the woman that whipped her. This time the victim is tied with her hands above her head. She is naked to the waist and we do get to see the whip marks on her back briefly. Very much worth a look.

Slaves in Cages - This film is absolutely loaded with whipping scenes. For the most part, though, they're done in a rather fake slow motion. Furthermore, marks never appear on our poor victims. There's always got to be a catch, doesn't there? By the way, the film's about a rich playboy that kidnaps women to use in a show for his freinds. At least this film is somewhat more entertaining than the similar "Bloodsucking Freaks." In glorious Black and White.

Slaves of Sheba - A young woman is tied face down on a rack with her bare feet in the air. A man then tortures her briefly by whipping the soles of her feet. This is in black-and-white, and cheap, but is a neat little scene.

Snake People, The - One of Boris Karloff's last films - Mexican I think. Again, low budget but nice scene of a young Mexican woman being whipped by a dwarf. (Seems this is all part of a Voodoo-like ritual, with lots of cult-followers looking on). A decent scene overall.

Spara Joe... e Coso S ia! (Shoot Joe...and Amen!) - Italian spagetti-western. Actress Franca Polesello is a prostitute stripped naked and whipped by a gang, to not be payed for her "services".

Sparrow - A young girl whips herself in a convent in the Franco Zefferelli film.

Spirits of the Dead (aka Histoiries Extraordinaires) - Bridgit Bardot is whipped by Alain Delon after she loses a card game to him. A good scene that should be checked out by all, now that the thing is finally on video in a beautiful letterboxed print.

Stormquest - At the beginning of the film, three beautiful warrior women are excommunicated from their group. They are tied to posts and have one shoulder of their dresses ripped off. Then they are lashed. Overall quite a good scene.

Storm Warning - (US 1950, by Daniel Fuchs and Richard Brooks, b/w) Ginger Rogers accidentially witnesses a murder by Klansmen. When she intends to inform the police, she is kidnapped by Klan members and taken to one of their secret meetings in the woods. They threaten her with punishment, but she does not give in . Surrounded by the white-hooded men and illuminated by a burning cross, she is held tight with spread arms, facing another man with a long horsewhip 2 meters in front of her. The chief announces the flogging with a megaphone. Then she is given 7 lashes ( 5 on screen, showing her front). The whip hits her shoulders, but is long enough to curl around her chest. She is fully clothed, but the cracks are so sharp that you could "feel" the welts beneath her clothes. Painful moaning . Of course, the hero comes to rescue her much too early. - Nice threatening atmosphere, with the chief like a judge in an old-fashioned court.

Story of a Cloistered Nun -A young nun is tied topless with her arms spread out and is whipped on her back for leaving her room at night. Nice scene. Afterwards she is taken down and we get to see the whip marks. We also see another nun treating the whip marks on her back.

Story of O - (France 197? , by Just Jaeckin): A classic one which you might know already. Beautiful young woman Corinne Clery agrees to do anything which her boyfriend demands from her. Several well-done whippings. She is brought to a secret chateau where she is stripped completely, hands tied above her head, then receives several lashes with a riding crop. You see the pain and excitement in her face, and short shots of her back and butt when the crop comes down. You hear the sharp lashing sound and her moaning.

Later in the film she is tied topless between 2 posts in a room and whipped by another woman whom she had cheated in a game. This time you see her front and face only, but it is also a long well-done scene with good sound. The uncut French version is much better than the German one owing to the ongoing penance they are paying for the WW2 atrocities. There is also another scene where a maid beats Corinne off-screen, and we later see her tied between two posts with several whip-marks across the front of her body. And there is yet another scene in which the woman that beats Corinne for cheating is beaten by her.

Story of O (Brazil) - I think just about every one of the programs in this series has a flogging scenein it. The actress playing O is quite lovely, though the acting is quite atrocious. Well worth a look.

Story of O Part II - In this stupid movie that has nothing to do with the original, 'O' has the back of her dress unzipped and allows a man to whip her back with a thin stick. Short scene and her back is never fully shown. Afterward, she utters the immortal line "I measure power not by the blows you can give, but by the blows you can take."

Strangler in the Tower - We briefly see the aftermath of a whipping. A woman has been whipped for information by a secret cult. On of the cult members covers her whipped back with a cloak, and she winces in pain.

Summer Heat - European movie. Boy dreams about punishing his mother who is dressed up as a naughty school girl. Weird little flick, but great looking women.

The dresses are torn open leaving the backs naked. The men take long leather thongs from their riding equipment and fasten their spurs at the ends (to increase the weight and impact). Then they ride their horses in circles. Each time they pass the trees, the quickly weilded thongs hit the bare backs sharply. Some lashes on-screen, mostly showing Deberg's face and back, with bleeding weals. Her head moves back with each lash.

Sword of the Barbarians - (aka Barbarian Master) A woman is briefly whipped at a whipping post.

Tai-Pan - An Asian girl is whipped off-screen. A door opens and we see her whipped back. A couple of girls take her down and immediately start treating the wounds. Nice whip marks, but the scene is very brief.

Teen Angel - A privately produced spanking video that is quite a turn-on. The camera is close-up and personal throughout the film. Get more information here.

Tank - Jennilee Harrison gets a belt whipping from the sheriff. She's in bed in her trailer and after a short lecture, the sheriff orders her to pull up her shirt and pull down her panties. Tor - (1964) Medieval barbarian endeavors to free an enslved village. Woman is brought in front of a group and given 5 lashes.

Tortured Witch - A lush beauty suspected of practicing witchcraft is brought to the torture chamber to confess her sins against the church. Very strong. See more now.Tortured Females - Cheap 60's grindhouse flick has some weak whippings of cute women that can't act. Similar to the Olga films, as the whips miss by a mile and the marks either don't appear or look way off. Watching this movie all the way through without hitting fast-forward will lull you to sleep.

Tower of London - The 60's version starring Vincent Price has a scene in which we see the side view of a girl's back that has been savagely lashed. The girl is later murdered, and revisits Price in spirit form. She shows him her back and asks him "Is it not attractive, as a woman's back should be?"

Triumph of the Spirit - Willem Dafoe's girlfriend is whipped after she tries to steal a piece of bread from a near dead inmate in a concentration camp. We only see her face, and the painful expressions on it. The other violence in this film is some of the most graphic ever shown in a mainstream film.

Trottoirs De Bankok, Les - Yoko (not Ono), a very small Asian woman, is chained with her hands abover her head nude in a dungeon. A woman whips her with a crop all over her back for a very long time. We get to see her reactions, and after the whipping we get to see her back. It’s a very good scene.

Trials of the Grand Guignol - A tawdry tale of college girls, secret societies and cracking whips. Wall to wall eroticism and several mind-blowing whipping scenes including one with a long, oiled bullwhip that will stun you. Find out more here.

Turkish Predon and the Princess - There is a scene where a gang leader ties up the princess, tears off the dress from her back, and give five very strong lashes with a bullwhip.

Uncle Tom's Cabin - The 60's one with Herbert Lom has a brief whipping scene of a clothed female slave. In a later scene she strips and we can see a bit of the whip marks on her back.

Unconquered - Paulette Goddard is tied with her hands above her head, has the back of her shirt ripped off, and is almost whipped. Could have been a great scene. In the book this is based on the character really does get whipped (it still gets stopped, but after a few lashes). Cecil B. DeMille must have wimped out. Big disappointment, and the movie's terrible too.

Vampire Circus - (1971) A woman is blamed for the death of a liile girl and is sentenced to be whipped by the village people. Woman whipped is played by Adrienne Corri.

Velvet Edge - Two loving couples are herassed by a gang. One of the women upset the gang leader by spitting in his face and pays for it by getting whipped while totally nude by the gang leader, the rest of the gang looks on . Pretty good scene , however the camera angles could have been better.

Venture into the Bizarre - (197?) xxx. Two girls are chained and whipped by two men while a couple looks on and gets turned on. You do see blood on their backs.

Vertical Smile, The - an erotic cheap french movie from late 60's; there's a very bief scene at the beginning.

Vice Squad (1982) - Wings Hauser plays a vicious pimp who ties a hooker face up to a bed and beats her to death with a "pimp stick", a folded up wire coat hanger. Only one stroke is shown on camera. Near the end he captures the star hooker, played by Season Hubley and chains her spread-eagled on a mattress in preparation for the same treatment. He only gets to give her one stroke before the cops break in and rescue her.

Videodrome - In David Cronenberg's confusing masterwork there are several whipping scenes of women. Unfortunately, they all take place on a television screen with blurry reception. A couple of really good scenes, though. Supposedly one of the women got really into it, according to a Cronenberg interview. James Woods stars with Debra Harry (Blondie) who gets whipped while on television by Woods who is not? Weird but fun.

Viking Queen, The - The title character (played by one-named actress Carita) is taken into the center of the village and suspendfed from the back of a cart. The bad guy then tears off the top of her dress, grabs her hair and places it in front of her shoulders. He then orders another man to flog her with a heavy cat o' nine tails on her bare back. The whipping shots are from afar, but pretty realistic. Later in the scene, she is taken down. She falls to the ground and we get a good look at her bloody whipped back. A good scene.

Walking Tall - Buford is tipped off that some guys are holding a woman who they believe was his informant. When he finds her, she's being held down by two men and whipped with a razor strap by a third as several others watch. Her entire back is covered with bloody marks. Buford is enraged by this and starts kickin' ass as only he can. This could have made for a great scene, but we only catch the tail end of the whipping.

Way of Pain, The - An Oriental bondage and whipping video as only the Oriental can make them. Very intense and absolutely real stuff here. Get more information.

Waxwork - Towards the end of this film there is a scene in which The Marquis DeSade has Deborah Forman chained up. The back of her dress is pulled open by two women, and she is heavily bullwhipped. Marks appear, but they are light compared to the actual punishment she is supposedly receiving. Still this is an intense scene. Deborah's squirming and begging the Marquis to beat her more are a joy to behold. The rest of the film isn't bad, either.

War Is Hell - A beautiful prisoner of war is tortured and whipped to get her to divulge some secret information. Pretty bloody scene from a clip vid. See more.Warrior and the Slave Girl - Italian picture,1958, called originaly "La Rivolta dei Gladiatori". Slave girl refuses to tell where a noble prisoner is and is flogged by order of her mistress. After the whipping, the mistress (Gianna Maria Canali) takes the whip and gives her some more lashes.

Whip Beauties - Two gorgeous women go at it with an assortment of nasty whips in a sexually charged catfight that leaves them both marked. From a clip video. More.

Westward the Women - trail boss Robert Taylor get in an argument with strong willed red head, cracks bullwhip twice near her face to get her attention, they argue, she turns to stomp off, he gives her one hard stroke on her back.

What? - Synde Rome is taken on a beach by Marcello Mastroianni, tied the wrists to the ankles, and is birched on bare bottom for sex game.

Where the Hot Wind Blows - aka The Law Gina Lollobrigida is tied face up on a table and gets 3 or 4 strokes on her front (pretty well done actually).

Whip Virgin - A beautiful young woman with a taste for the whip. Sexy!! More here.

Whip and the Body, The - Christopher Lee takes a whip to beautiful Israeli actress Daliah Lavi twice in this film. The first time he whips her on a beach. She is clothed at first but he ends up whipping part of the back of her dress off so we can see the marks. She kills him later in the film, but his spirit returns to flog her a second time. This time she's lying on a bed and wearing a bodice, but by the end of the scene it's completely whipped off her and Lee's spirit is lashing at her flinching bare back. Great scene in an excellent horror movie by Italian maestro Mario Bava (under the psuedonym "John M. Old").

Wicked Lady, The - Faye Dunaway and Marina Sirtis (yep, Troi from Star Trek: The Next generation) go at each other with long bullwhips. Though she eventually wins the fight, Sirtis has her top whipped off and gets several whip marks all over her body before it's done. Later we see Dunaway getting her whip marks treated. A great scene in a lousy movie.

White Slaves of Chinatown - Another black and white film from the Olga series. Strong stuff for its time and loaded with whippings and torture. Badly narrated in voice over for most of the film to keep the story from making you throw up your lunch.

Wild and Willing - (197x) European movie Girl is caught having sex in the back of a van with her boyfriend by a nun. She is taken into the nun's office and whipped on her bare bottom. Later in the showers the other girls inspect her wounds.

Wishmaster - a girl in a frayed white bikini and dress is whipped by tentacles for a couple secs. not really much but it's there.

Witchmaker, The - aka The Legend of Witch Hollow or Witchkill. After betraying her cult, a girl is held down by two men, has the back of her shirt opened, and is given a few hard lashes across her bare back with a short whip by the cult leader. She then gets off the table, and as she walks back to her place we get a good, long look at her whipped back.

Women in Bondage - This Nazi B-movie hides under many names. Has a scene where a woman is whipped on the ground with her arms chained around a pillar.

Women in Cages - Pam Greer uses a bullwhip on her female lover (brief and not realiastic). Later, however, Pam is tied face up to a slanted tree, shirt ripped showing most of her breasts and given 5 hard strokes with a tree branch. A nice scene and Greer was at the top of her game in terms of her physical beauty.

Women of Hell's Island - A black woman is tied to a triangle, has the back of her shirt ripped off, and is publicly bullwhipped. Short, quickly cut scene. Unrealistic sound and screams, and we don't really get to see anything. Later, she is taken down and she painfully tries to crawl to her bed, which another girl helps her do. In this scene we get to see a few shot of her bloody back, but its not very real looking.

Woman of the Streets - A woman of the streets is intensely tortured and whipped during the dark times of the religious inquisition. Very real torture. See more now.Women Prisoners of Devil's Island - Scene near the beginning where we briefly see a girl stripped to the waist and tied to a tree. The whip marks on her back are barely visible. Later, there are scenes of her lying on a bed, and we can see a couple of the whip marks.

Yolanda, Daughter of the Black Pirate Yolanda was a female pirate. Toward the end of this film, she is tied to the mast and flogged.

Zenabel - it's an italian comedy with a brief scene: a woman (a duchess) is tied totally bared to a column and bullwhipped to confess where the little sons are.

Beast City: Awakening of the Beast - A school teacher is whipped by one of her students.

Burn-Up - A girl is tied up and whipped in this anime. She's wearing lingerie. We don't get to see the whipping, but we do get to see the various marks on her skin.

Conan: The Adventurer - At the end of the opening episode, Conan finds himself trapped as a galley slave. He raises his arms in defiance, and is whipped on his bare back for his troubles.

Cream Lemon Series - At least one episode of this series has a whipping scene in it. Two girls are tied up and briefly whipped by the sadistic mother of one of the girls during a family orgy/torture session.

Darkside Blues - Towards the beginning of this anime feature, we see a topless woman chained up with whip marks on her body. Her torturer then sticks some weird needles in her that turn her to gold (what?). Anyway, a few of the images of the victim's body are nice...before the poor lass turns to gold, that is.

Dragon Knight - Brief scene of a woman tied in a chair having her breasts whipped by an ugly creature.

Dragon Knight II - A young girl is tied up naked, hanging with her feet above the ground. An evil sorceress then tortures her by taking a riding crop to her breasts, then to her buttocks. Marks appear, though we only see them briefly. Still, this is a rather long scene.

Dragon Pink 2 - At the beginning of this episode, poor Pink is pulling her master and his companions in a cart. Every now and again he lashes at her with the harness straps, calling it "loving discipline."

Dragon Pink 3 - In order to save her master from certain death, Pink holds onto a rope that the villainess has cut. The villainess whips her to get her to let go of the rope. The oft-mistreated Pink was in three animations. They are all available on a tape called

Dream Hunter REM - At a girls' school, a girl is singled out and tied up, then whipped with rose thorns by her evil classmates. She's clothed, though.

Fencer of Minerva: The Emergence - In this Gor-like anime, there are two whippings of the main female character.

GI Joe - In one of the first episodes of the series, a slave girl is whipped while working in a flashback sequence. Very brief, as this was for kids, but still a nice scene of the whip cracking on her (clothed) back and her flinching in agony.

Gude Crest - Has a brief scene of a clothed boy chained up and whipped.

Guy: Awakening of the Devil - Raina is tied up fully clothed and whipped by an androgynous villain. When she's later stripped there's nary a mark on her body. Still, this is one of the best of the 'adult' Japanimations.

Hades Project Zeorymer: Vol 2 - A women is tortured by being whipped through her suit of armor! That must be some tough whip!

Heavy Metal - In the final, and best, segment of the film, Taarna is tied naked to a rack and whipped. Later, she is lying naked in a pit with whip marks all over her body.

Imma Youjo 4 - A woman, who had been living as a man, is found out and whipped (among other things) in this anime.

Jungle Bondage Camp - Don't know what the real title of this is, but this sure isn't it. Has a great scene where a naked girl is whipped on her back by Nazis who also did the same to her years before. Several marks appear on her back.

Kekko Kamen - One of the episodes on the second tape of this series has a scene in which an oft-abused schoolgirl is whipped by a tentacled female creature.

Kizuibito: White Haired Devil- Has a scene where a dominatrix brutally whips both the title character and his female sidekick. Bloody marks appear on both of their backs, though the whipping scene is mostly devoted to the woman.

Lupin III: Mystery of Mamo - Fujiko is whipped very briefly.

My Dear Marie - Marie, a cybernetic creation, has weird dreams in one episode. At one point, her creator says she needs to be punished. In the next shot, we see her dressed in a leather bondage outfit, as her creator takes a crack at her. It turns out that this is just the creator's "Punishing Marie" toy.

Peacock King: A Harvest of Cherry Blossoms - A woman recalls being whipped in the past.

Project AKO: The Verses (Gray Side) - A-KO imagines a scene where she is whipped naked by a little impish creature. Only one shot, but amusing nevertheless.

Starchaser - In the beginning of this film a robot laser- whips a slave's back because he fell down on the job. Later, a girl wearing a half-top is laser-whipped on her bare back by a robot because she cried over her dead brother. Only one lash each time, but this is pretty brutal stuff for a kids film.

Star of Dave (Dabade Star, Hitler Was My Hero) - Each episode (there are four) has a whipping scene, I think. Here are the one in the first two. Episode One: A man whips his tied a wife, while a child watches. Episode Two: This child grows up and kidnaps a young singer. In one scene he whips her while clothed and on all fours. In another one, he ties her up, strips her naked, and whips her all over her body for trying to escape. Grim and ugly, this one is not to be taken lightly - and the animation is rotten to boot. Episodes three and four have similar whipping scenes.

Street Fighter II (series)- In one episode, Ryu is taken to prison. He's stripped to the waist, tied up, and whipped (mainly on his chest) by the brutal prison warden.

Sukeban Deka 2 - The title character has a fight with the dominatrix villianess. Sukeban has her usual yo-yo, whilst the villianess attacks with her whip. The dominatrix gets the upper hand and whips poor Sukeban to the ground.

100,000 For Ringo- Ringo (Richard Harrison) is whipped by the outlaws. Unfortunately, he has his shirt on during the whipping.

1,001 Nights - aka "Sharaz" Jeff Cooper is spread-eagled shirtless on some sort of St. Andrew's cross and chest-whipped.

Adam's Woman - takes place in a 19th century Australian penal colony. As the movie opens, a shirtless (and younger and trimmer) Beau Bridges is tied to a whipping triangle. Two trustees (also shirtless) are giving him 200 lashes for attempted escape. The other prisoners look on and we can see that his back is covered with bloody welts. A number of lashes are on film. Afterwards he is tended to by a sympathetic guard as he moans in agony.

Alerta! Alta Tension - Incredibly handsome Jorge Rivero, gets several torture sessions. Finally, they get back to basics and whip him. Hung shirtless by the wrists, facing the wall of his cell, he is subjected to a long whipping. Both long and closeup shots show his body and the locale to advantage.

Alone Against Rome - Lang Jeffries is whipped in public by his Roman captors then later enslaved and tortured again.

American Hunter - An American secret agent (Chris Mitchum, the son of Robert) is captured by a gang of American and Phillippino bad guys and bullwhipped on his bare back first by the American chief of the gang, then by a Phillippino acolyte, in order to get information from him about a microfilm. Only a few strokes by each one before he is briefly electrotortured. Only face reactions and whipping action from one side. Never see the whip on his back. Later, when he escapes, we see very briefly some faint marks on his back. Too bad.

Amazons of Rome (aka Slaves of Carthage) - There are also some male whipping scenes in this one.

American Ninja 4 - David Bradley and a young black actor take the whip, having infiltrated a sort of Arab-IndoChinese terrorist organisation. Bradley is stripped to the waist and stoic as he takes the whip; the black actor is in a tank top and much more demonstrative. Michael Dudikoff, by the way, appears later in the film to rescue them. There is also a scene near the beginning where we see some dead soldiers with whipped backs on camera.

Amistad - The flashback scenes from the slaves' Atlantic crossing, shows a very brutal whipping onboard the ship. The shot begins with blood being washed away from the deck below the victim, followed by sounds of the whip and the agonized moans of the victim. The whip used was not a cat I think. The emphasis here is on the brutality of the whipping in the context of the overall inhumanities of the slave trade, rather than whipping as part of some masculine trial of endurance like so many other films. Later the main character (Cinque) is shown being 'lightly' whipped while watching other chained slaves being thrown overboard. He is being held up by a crew member while another whips him with what looks like a small, thin whip.

Anna and the King of Siam - Has a scene in which we see a man's brutally flogged back.

Anne of the Indies - Louis Jourdan is whipped with a cat-o-nine-tails by pirates on a ship.

Avenger of the Seven Seas - Richard Harrison is imprisoned and tortured while his younger brother in this movie is whipped.

Bad Girls - Dermot Mulroney is whipped .. but offscreen and then is shown with his clothing torn and lash marks on his face, etc.

Badlands of Montana - A western starring Rex Reason. Some shady characters decide Rex needs to be taught a lesson. They take him into the barn and tie his wrists to a ladder. Baraka X77 - This is a spy story of sorts. The hero, a guy billed as Gerard Barray, is tortured for information. His shirt off, he is hung by the wrists inside an upright frame. When the stool he's standing on is kicked away, he is suspended. He gets several lashes with a long whip, the sound effects are wonderful and the camera angle varies, although it is shown entirely from the front.

Barry Lyndon - Ryan O' Neal is made to run the gauntlet. Brief scene.

Beau Geste - starring Telly Savales features a French Foreign Legion flogging. Actor Guy Stockwell is punished in front of the entire company. He's shirtless and tied to a flogging post. The camera looks down toward Stockwell and a plaited bullwhip can be seen wrapping around the post. Later, we see Stockwell's back attended to.

Becket - Toward the end of this fim, Peter O'Toole is whipped on his bare back by several monks. Many faint whip lines appear. Co-stars Richard Burton.

Belle Star - Has a scene in which we see a man that has been strung up and whipped across his front and back. A villian then tortures him by rubbing spurs across his chest and back.

Ben-Hur (both versions) - In both versions there are galley slave floggings, though in the re-make they are in lovely Technicolor!

Big Sky, The - starring Kirk Douglas. Set in colonial America, a group of male adventurers and an Indian Princess are together on the pioneer trail. A burly Frenchmen is caught making passes at the princess. As punishment he is stripped to the waist, tied to a tree and horsewhipped. Later, Douglas' sidekick, a young very well built cowboy, is threatened with the same treatment for the same reason but is spared. Too bad.

Billy Budd - A couple of naval floggings.

Black Countess, The - Hell hath no fury like the Black Countess as she oversees the labours of her torturers. Graphic whipping and torture scenes. Find out more here.

Black Magic - Toward the beginning of this 1940s film with Orson Welles, a young gypsy boy is tied up and flogged for biting a public official after his parents have been sentenced to death. The camera mostly shows his upper body from the front, though there is one far shot of his back. His torturers are about to gouge out his eyes when he is rescued by his uncle.

Black Velvet Band - four convicts are being deported to Tasmania and one is whipped on the way for stealing an officer's watch (he's actually taking the blame to spare his friend). He pulls off his shirt (he's rather portly) and stands against the grating. We see him get one stroke from the front and then the camera focuses on his friends faces as he gets a few more. In the next scene, he's being tended to and the marks on his back look very realistic.

Birth of a Nation - D.W. Griffith's controversial masterwork has a scene of a slave being flogged briefly.

Black Pirate, The - Italian actor Terence Hill, the pirate captured by the woman he first catched on sea and then released, is tied shirtless in a room of the forteress husband's woman, his hands together roped to a ring in wall, and bullwhip by a guard while the woman watches. We see only once the lash on his back. Fake black marks on his skin. Very short scene.

Blackbeard - Otherwise lighthearted fare has an uncharacteristically nasty (but brief) flogging scene in which a male lead is flogged and has salt thrown upon his bare back. However, within a few scenes he seems just fine.

Blacksnake - In Russ Meyer's ode to racism, there are a couple of scenes of the female mistress of a plantation whipping the hell out of her male slaves' backs.

Blood and Guns - As a sadistic colonel in the Mexican Revolution, Orson Welles narrates a scene where a revolutionary is strung up and whipped while others watch and wait their turn.

Blood of the Vampire - There is a prison flogging scene in this horror film.

Brothers in Arms - After taking the place of a female whip victim, a man has his shirt ripped open and is bullwhipped while on top of the female victim. A few shots of his whipped back later on.

Brubaker - A black man is chosen at random, tied to the prison bars, so everyone can see. His pants are pulled down and he is hit with the biggest strap I ever saw. You see the bare ass, you see one or two lashes. You see lots of close-ups of his face, as he nearly goes intoepileptic fit. He does a great performance, drool - the whole bit. By the way, he is whipped as an example for the other cons to behave.

C.A.T.Squad:Python Wolf - An american air force officier (Jack Youngblood, the ex-football player) and his crew are capture by white africaner terrorist in South Africa, and taken to a secret labor camp for interrogation. One white man of the crew have his feet beaten, an other one (the only black member of the team) is burn alive and the Youngblood is whip with a sambock on his back and front, but off screen. We only see the bloody welts covering his hairy muscular torso when he is rescue by american soldiers.

Caged Beauties - This Asian prison camp film has both male and female whippings in it.

Caged Heat 3000 - A man makes another woman whip his ass with a paddle while they are both naked in a shower.

Camp on Blood Island, The - A prisoner-of-war has the back of his shirt pulled up and is whipped by guards in order to extract information. Later, he is returned to his fellow prisoners, and we get a good look at the real-looking whip welts covering his back.

Cantubury Tales, The - Male whipping scene in a bordello.

Captain Blood - This classic tale of an innocent English doctor sent into tropical slavery for aiding a rebel has 3 floggings -- 1) a minor unnamed character is seen being whipped at a post; he still has a shirt on, and is not seen close-up; 2) Jeremy Pitt (played by Ross Alexander) is beaten by a pliable rod of some sort while tied to a post, with a torn shirt mostly off; later, Peter Blood (Errol Flynn) comes to his aid. These are two fairly detailed scenes (with closeups of Pitt's back & face). The actual flogging is only available in the restored version, made most recently. 3) For his aid, Blood is tied to the same post, facing forward, and receives one hit of the rod before a "timely interruption" occurs. For such a classic movie, the violence is mild, probably because of the wave of self-censorship that hit Hollywood in the mid-30s.

Captain Sinbad - Guy Williams is whipped with his shirt on.

Carbine Williams - An old Jimmy Stewart movie. His character is sentenced to a chain gang. We see the prisoners gathered at the end of a work day to witness the punishment of one of their group. The victim (not Stewart) is stripped to the waist and tied to a wooden frame. He is flogged on his bare back with a strap. After he is taken down, we see his welt covered back as the guards drag him away.

Cardinal, The - Tom Tyron is abducted by Klansmen one night who tear off his shirt and try to make him spit on a crucifix. He refuses and so they bullwhip him while he stands there, unbound, holding the cross. We see the lash curl around his shoulder with each stroke. The next morning, he wakes up lying face down and we get a good view of his back which does look like it's been bullwhipped. He wanders around for a while, disorientated, with his shirt in tatters round his waist until a passer-by comes to his aid.

Cervantes - 1968 with a very cute Horst Buchholtz strung up and whipped by the Moors in a dungeon midway through the movie, then placed on the rack later in the movie.

Charge Of The Light Brigade - Authentically depicts savage British army flogging of 19th Century. Soldier is strapped to frame and flogged with cat o' nine tails. We mainly see faces of onlookers as 20 lashes are inflicted. Shot of his bloodied back. Brief scene later on showing back of another flogged man.

Chino - The scene starts with a shot of Bronson laying face down, shirtless in the dirt, both arms stretched in front of him. You can see a rope around each wrist. The punisher, who is an upper-class land-owning father of the woman Bronson, a half-breed, has secretly courted, nods his head and suddenly you see two men on horses begin a fast trot. Each holds an end of one of the ropes, which you now see have been strung over a gate post frame. The action drags Bronson across the dirt, then straight up, and then hanging by his hands off the ground - a great bondage punishment in itself. Another man behind Bronson starts to bullwhip him methodically and brutally. Much of what you see is from the front. Very realistic. Bronson's reactions are a little stoic, but you see him suffering. Very few, if any, shots from the back. The father finally gives the order to stop and tells Bronson that if he sees his daughter again, "Next time I won't tell them to stop." Bronson's adopted teenage son (the only onlooker other then the ranch hands of the landowner)looks on helplessly the entire time. After, the son takes his agonized father face down in a wagon to the camp of the Indians, who nurse Bronson back to health. There are shots of his torn back being treated.

Chuka - As some newcomers arrive in a military camp, they see a man tied to a triangle being whipped with a strap. We see a side veiw of the whipping, and their are several bloody looking whip lines on his bare back.

Conquerer, The - Temujin (John Wayne) is yoked and whipped by his captors during a trek across the desert.

Count of Monte Cristo, The - The 2002 version of this story has a couple of whipping scenes. Both are of the main character, played by Jim Caviezel, being whipped in prison. The first scene is his whipping as he enters prison, and the second scene is of one of his "anniversary" whippings. We also see scars on the back of Richard Harris' character and briefly see him whipped in a flashback, if my memory serves me correctly - which it usually doesn't.

Crimson Blade, The- The leader of the people's revolt is captured and whipped by his girlfriend's nasty father.

Crimson Pirate, The - this Burt Lancaster swashbuckler has a very brief scene where a rather old pirate is flogged in a dungeon hung up by his wrists. We only see one stroke of the whip hit his back so the scene is a bit disappointing.

Czarina - A spectacular European beauty in full military uniform including a whip dominates her male slave. No actual whipping but top notch Fem-Dom. See more.

Damn the Defiant -This British film (original title: H.M.S. Defiant) has two floggings. The first involves Johnny Briggs, a common seaman, getting two dozen of the cat from two bosuns while tied to the grating. All 24 strokes are heard, but the camera scans the whole boat, and most of the back shots are blocked by bodies & other objects. The second is to a more prominent actor, Tom Bell, who is a leader in the incipient mutiny. This time, most of the action is off the deck, but it is topped off, when the two dozen are completed, Bell turns to Dirk Bogarde, overseeing the punishment, and strains to shouts: "Enjoy yourself?" His cheek gets him two dozen more after the fade out.

Danger Zone - A member of a gang of bikers and drug dealers is stripped to the waist, tied up to a T post, and bullwhipped by the chief of the gang for stealing a small quantity of drugs for his own use. Mainly face reactions but few good shoots from the side and from far.

Danger Zone 3 - A young man , ex-convict, is bullwhipped by the same chief of bikers (as in the previous) to make him or his girlfriend tell where a treasure of stolen gold is hidden. After many lashes the girl speaks and the guy is released and falls on the ground (for a good but brief view of his bleeding back). Mainly close ups on face reactions and some from far front shots.

Dawn of Victory, The - A 1974 film set in Greece. A handsome young man who joined his brother as a revolutionary was captured. The next scene shows him being chained to a wall shirtless and whipped. The whipping is short, but the whip marks look good. About the partisan guerrillas on Crete during WWII. A partisan leader is whipped by the Nazis, tortured for information, no shirt, spread in chains against the wall of the prison.

De Sade (1969) - A young boy has his shirt pulled up and is whipped off-screen.

Deathsport - The late David Carridine suffers under the lash.

Death at Owell Rock - A cowboy is bullwhipped.

Desert Legion - A dark and somewhat handsome legionnaire named Lopez is captured by the "enemy" after he has advanced ahead of his company. As the scene opens he is being whipped for information. We get to see front and side views only. The leader then comes in and when Lopez does not respond to his request for information the leader : "Aha, the brave and silent soldier; We'll see how long you can stay brave and silent". The whipping continues as the scene fades out. Later, we see a good shot of Lopez' striped back as Alan Ladd the leader look on after he has passed out. He is then cut down and dragged away by two guards. In a later scene his welts are being tended to in a dungeon of sorts and he seems just fine. Later on in the movie he is riding through the desert alongside Alan Ladd and he seems in excellent condition.

Desert Renegades -Three men are captured in the desert. In the next scene we see them being tied shirtless to whipping posts and being whipped. The whipping is quite long as the three characters get whipped at the same time. The next scene shows one of the men, the hero of the film, lying down and getting his welted back treated by a sheik's daughter.

Devil Ship Pirates - John Cairney gets a flogging while bound to a whipping post in the town square.

Dog Day -- a very young boy is severely spanked with a belt on his bare butt. Much of it is on-screen. With Lee Marvin.

Dracula Rising - Christopher Atkins and a good looking dark haired guy are monks a century or two back in time. The vampire bit comes sometime later in the film although we do learn early on that Chris is the son of Vlad the Impaler. He befriends a beautiful young girl but only to help her with her faith or something like that. However, his friend and fellow monk says that Chris must tame his flesh and he will be glad to help him. The friend points out that Chris must always do extra penance because of his evil father. The next scene opens with the crack of a whip on flesh. Several more cracks are heard before the camera pans in on Chris, stripped to the waist, kneeling before some wooden apparatus in the monastery courtyard. His friend is flogging him while the other monks watch. A number of lashes are on film and he lets out only a muffled cry each time the whip lands. We see several good shots of his back which is covered with bloody welts. Some days or weeks later we see him shirtless again but there are no signs of the whipping.

Dragonard - At the beginning, a black slave is whipped for stealing a comb . Whipping is long and bloody, and we get to see a lot of it. Later, a white servant has the back of his shirt ripped open and has his back ripped to shreds in one of the longest whipping scenes I've ever seen. He miraculously survives, and we later see him getting his whip marks treated in a house of ill repute.

Drum - Ken Norton and Yaphet Kotto are tied upside down and paddled on their bare butts.

Duel of the Titans - aka "Romulus and Remus" Steve Reeves and Gordon Scott are Romulus and Remus(!). Steve is spread-eagled on a rotating vertical StAndew's cross and whipped on the front of his body. The whipping is centered but the subsequent interrogation is poorly cropped CinemaScope that cuts off half his body.

Eerie Midnight Horror Show, The (aka The Sexorcist) - After being tempted by a possessed woman, a priest viciously (but briefly) flogs himself.

The Electronic Monster - a Nazi colonel, after the war is over, goes into the business of selling dream therapy to mental patients. Of course his aim is to plant subliminal ideas into the minds of the patients with himself as a Christ image--to save them, and therefore make them his willing slaves in order to take over the world, of course, and bring back the Third Riech. In one of these sequences, a man is whipped by a beautiful woman while everyone looks on.

Gor - In the first of two movies inspired by the Gor Cycle of John Norman. An old white haired man is bullwhipped on his bare back in a dungeon for information. We see one lash landing on his back before the whipping is stopped.

Gunga Din - Victor MacLaughlin and Cary Grant are whipped by Indians. Their faces suggest that they have smelled something bad rather than being in any real pain.

Harder They Come, The 1972 - In this film , with a famous reggae sountrack, set in 60s Jamacia a street punk (Jimmy Cliff) is sentenced to a judicial caning. He has to drop his pants and bend over a pole. At the first stroke from a very long bamboo cane across his butt, in the uncut version, he pisses himself.

Haunted Strangler, The - Has a scene where a couple of male prisoners are tied to wooden crosses and whipped on their naked backs by a guard. There is a close up of the bloody marks on one man's back when he is taken down.

Hellgate - (1952) This might be the best of all. Prisoner in military prison lies to one of the guards. He's taken outside the cell and sees another guard with a bullwhip. The head guard tells him, "Get it off, liar." The prisoner tears off his shirt. Next scene his wrists are tied to a hook high above his head. He receives several lashes onscreen before his buddies break out and rescue him. A true whipping classic.

Hidden City- Bomba (Johnny Sheffield), who played Tarzan's son Boy in the Tarzan movies, is whipped by the evil sheik's men.

High Plains Drifter - Has a couple of very brutal, all-over-the-body, whip scenes of clothed men.

His Kind of Woman - (1951) Somewhere in Mexico, Robert Mitchum sneaks aboard the yacht of some bad guys but is caught. He's beaten up and then has his shirt buttons ripped off by one of the bad guys. The bad guy tells his two cronies to "Take off his shirt and stand him over there." They take off Mitchum's shirt and stand him against a pillar as the other guy takes off his thick belt. He gives Mitchum 3 lashes before Mitchum falls to the floor. Short whipping but a good scene.

House of the Spirits - Antonio Banderas tries to incite his fellow workers to strike against patron Jeremy Irons; Irons comes along, sends the workers off, orders Antonio to take off his shirt, and personally whips him (arms outstretched and grasped by his father). The focus is on Antonio's face as he grimly Withstands his pain. This ranks high on the star flogging scale.

How Green Was My Valley - Roddy McDowell whipped off-screen by his teacher.

Hunchback of Notre Dame - All versions, except the Disney one, have a scene where the title character is publicly flogged. The one with Charles Laughton is particularly brutal - and somewhat real from the history of the film.

Hurricane, The - 1933 Southern Seas epic with Dorothy Lamour shows Jon Hall whipped, very briefly, by two prison guards.

I am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang - Paul Muni and another man are lashed with the warden's strap. We get to see the other man's back as he runs to get out of the whipping room.

Iron Gate, The - A full fledged torture chamber is used in all its glory by the cruel torturers of the Inquisition. Lots of whipping and horror. More details here.

Island of Doomed Men - 1940 B Warners movie, with Peter Lorre, who runs a tropical island slave-labor camp infiltrated by crusading young reporter Robert Wilcox, (a darkly handsome, muscular young actor) who in the second of the on-screen floggings is tied shirtless to a wooden post and whipped by a guard. Like other studio floggings, the focus is on the tightly bound torso straining against the beating; the nice touch here is that Wilcox struggles throughout to keep talking to the guard to get him to join his rebellion! Back in his shack, some medication is applied, but little is seen.

Jack Be Nimble - A boy's stern father whips him with a long stick, if I remember correctly. I think the boy was clothed, but later in the film we get to see the scars. This is a very well done, and very strange, Aussie horror film.

Jailhouse Rock - For hitting two guards, convict Elvis is tied to an overhead pipe, shirtless, and flogged by another guard with a strap. No shots of his back, we get to see his reaction to three of the lashes while they are laid on. Back in his cell, his back is covered by a jacket while cellmate Mickey Shaunnessy apologizes for not having the money to pay for grease for his welts. Surprisingly little sympathy is wasted on Elvis here, whose character is surly and selfish most of the movie before he redeems himself. Elvis was also flogged off-screen in one of his later, lesser movies, Harum Scarum, where he played a singer captured by an evil prince who wants Elvis to help him capture the throne by using his karate skills

Jesus Christ Superstar - The messiah gets it again in this one, and to music at that!

Jesus of Montreal - In the flagellation scene, our man Lothaire is tied to a tree completely naked and severely whipped by two Roman guards. We see the first two lashes, and Lothaire's vivid reaction to them, close-up. Then we see a few more lashes land across his bare back from a more distant angle. There is quite a bit of "oohing" and "ahhing" on Lothaire's part as well, at least if you turn up the volume.

Johnny Firecloud - The title character gets tied to a fence in a barn, has his shirt ripped off, and is whipped by Ralph Meeker. Bloody marks appear on his back. He is in jail and a guard is treating his wounds in the next scene. He then gets up and walks around and there are lots of shots of his marked back. Later, he gets revenge by tying Meeker up, stripping him to the waist, and whipping him across both the back and front. Then there is a scene of Meeker having his wounds treated.

Joseph Andrews - Has a scene where we see a man who has been flogged being taken to the stocks. His back is realistically bloody.

Journey to the Lost City - has a nice long multi-angled scene, an outdoor whipping, the Emir (or something) being whipped on orders of his usurper brother.

Jungle Book, The - (english version, 1945) Sabu, the boy of jungle book is whipped by a bad man, accused being a witch 'cause he speaks to animals, but the real goal for the whipping is forcing Sabu tell where is a golden treasure, hidden in the jungle. The boy is kneeling, hands tied to a ring in the stone wall of a kind of temple. We see some moving of the whipman, and fake marks on the shoulders and back of the boy.

Kentuckian, The - Bullwhips open and close the flick. It takes place in a town in backwoods Kentucky, ca 1800. Burt Lancaster plays a backwoodsman, widowed, father of a 10-ish kid, both wearing buckskin. It opens in a tavern, where the local bully flicks his lash, shouting 'Who da'st to crack a whip with me?' He threatens to 'cut that buckskin right off' Burt. Burt settles down, working for his cousin, a storekeeper, and wears tight textiles. There's a woman, too. It evolves predictably. In the unpredictable conclusion, the bully's kid attacks Burt's kid with about a six-foot whip. Burt intervenes, taking the kid's lash away. The bully then lashes Burt all over the open space, driving him tantalizingly close to a boulder. Then the lady drives a wagonwheel over the lash, too soon.

Kilma, Queen of the Amazons - A man is tied down shirtless on a rock. His arms held tied in ropes by two men. Another man bullwhips his bare back. Most of the whipping shots are from afar, though there are a couple of close-ups. Quite a long scene, intercut with scenes of the Amazons watching the action.

Kings Pirate 1967 - Movie opens on board a Royal navy ship with Doug McClure receiving 20 lashes. Afterwards we see the marks on his back. He had volunteered to be whipped so that his back would be marked in order for him to pose as a deserter and infiltrate a pirate stronghold. This is a remake of "Against All Flags."

Kiss the Blood Off My Hands - Burt Lancaster again - was he into it or something? In this one, he sentenced to be lashed with a cat o' nine tails. He's stripped to the waist and stretched. He's whipped but we only get to see reaction shots. In the next scene he is lying face down in an infirmary, but his back is covered.

Knightriders (1981) - Ed Harris is the 'king' of a roadside carnival that lives according to the ways of the middle ages. In the beginning of the movie, he can be seen lightly whipping himself on the back with a tree branch.

Kull the Conquerer - starring Kevin Sorbo, has a pretty good male flogging in it near the beginning. It's not Sorbo, but an equally good looking guy. Sarbo appears with his shirt off through much of the movie and whip marks are evident on his back from a past flogging.

Lady Godiva Rides - A sailor is caught having sex with a woman and is whipped at the mast. We only get to see the last couple of strokes. His back is covered with fairly realistic whip marks considering the cheapness of this production.

Last Temptation of Christ, The - Willem Defoe, as the Christ-man, gets his back severely beaten under the orders of Pontius Pilate, played by a menacing David Bowie . Dafoe is completely nude in the scene, and the bloody whip marks on his back look very realistic. In an earlier crucifixion scene, we get to see the whip marks on another man's back as well. There is also a scene where a man is flogging himself.

Lawrence of Arabia - Peter O' Toole is stretched on a bench and has his lower back caned. Only his reactions are shown.

Legion of Iron - A football player is captured by a sadistic queen who wants to dominate the world. There are two whipping scenes. First, the football player tries to escape but is caught. He's stripped shirtless and punished by two lines of men. The men hold whips and rods which they flog him with as he is forced to walk past them. The next scene shows him being treated in bed by one of the prisoners. In the other scene, the hero opposes something, annoying the queen. She orders him to be strung up and whipped. Unfortunately, he has his shirt on, although it is only a t-shirt that covers half his body. There are only a few strokes on his back, after which he is taken down and sent to the queen's chamber.

Les Miserables - 1935 Jean Valjean is whipped.

Lion and the Wind, The - An old Sean Connery (yes Mr 007 himself) as a rebel arab chief in Morocco, in early 20 th century, after being captured by german soldiers, is whipped off-screen.

Lord of the Flies - This 1990 movie of the Golding novel has a brief whipping. There are two camps in this film, the feral hunters, led by Jack (Chris Furrh), and the hopeful fire watchers, led by Ralph (Balthazar Getty). One of the kids in the hunter camp is accused of stealing. Jack turns to three of his minions and says "Okay, give it to him." One boy says, "Yeah, whip him." Two boys grab his arms and legs and stretch him out, while the other one whips his back. The entire whipping is on camera, switching between the wild eyes of Jack's lieutenant as he administers the whip, and the boy receiving the whip, as the twists and cries in agony. He later runs off and faint marks can be seen on his back.

Lorna Doone - (1951) which takes place in 1680's England. Richard Greene is a farmer who resists when the evil landlord announces that he is increasing the crop taxes. The landlord orders him stripped to the waist and tied to a tree branch. There he is bullwhipped while his family and other farmers are forced to watch. Lorna Doone (Barbara Hale) comes up in a carriage and eventually gets the landlord to stop

Los Hijos de Satanes - Jorge Rivero again, flaunting his beautiful body but his buddy Juan Miranda is the victim this time. First Juan is spread-eagled between two posts in an underground cavern. He only gets one lash across the bare chest with a riding crop but it is a long scene for those who like beef in bondage. Then he is taken outside and tied in front of a cannon muzzle, his wrists roped to the gun's wheels. The welt from the lash across the chest is prominently displayed. They are going to shoot the cannon at Jorge who is sneaking around (barechested of course) in a rescue attempt. But Jorge frees him with a bullet that cuts the ropes before the cannonball can go through him. [Jorge made at least one American movie as George Rivero, starring with John Wayne in Rio Lobo.

Love Camp - A man is whipped naked alongside a woman. They are then taken down and presented in front of their cult leader, with the marks on their backs prominently displayed.

Loves of Hercules, The - In this ridiculous film, a man is lashed on his bare back in order to get him to reveal information. He doesn't and is killed.

Maciste in King Solomon's Mines - Don Harrison is whipped in the dungeon.

Magic Christian, The - Raquel Welch lashes a tuxedoed man as he begs her to whip him again. Strictly for laughs. In another scene the gorgeous Ms. Welch plays the Priestess of the whip and crack cadence for the topless women rowers chained in the ship’s galley.

Magnificent Trio, The - A 1960's Shaw Brothers film. A young swordsman volunteers to be punished by receiving one hundred lashes in return for the release of his comrades. The next scene shows him being chained up shirtless and receiving the seventieth strike of the whip. He faints and is revived with water. Later, a General's daugher rescues him from his cell and treats the realistic whip marks on his back.

Maitress - Several real floggings of men, one a very long scene where a naked man is tied facing the wall and having his back and ass lashed.

Majin, Monster of Terror - An Asain man is tortured with the whip. I don't think we actually see any whipping, just his marked body.

Man Who Broke 1,000 Chains, The - Val Kilmer is whipped several times in this remake of I am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang. In one he is tied spread eagle, stripped to the waist, in between two trees. If you're a Kilmer fan, you will definitely want to give this made-for-cable movie a look.

Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, The - Lee Marvin.

Manhunt - from the same director as Operation Nam, the object of the whip's attention is John Ethan Wayne (yep, the Duke's son) as a wrongly convicted prisoner who escapes an Arizona prison. While trying to clear himself, gets caught at Ernest Borgnine's ranch, where tied shirtless to a rafter in the barn, he is horsewhipped, with several lashes appearing as they are laid on his back.

Mandingo - Ken Norton tied upside down and paddled.

Mark of the Devil - A man has his feet whipped in one scene and his back whipped in another. In both cases, red lines appear.

Mark of Zorro (l920) - Douglas Fairbanks whips the commandant because he had an elderly priest publicly whipped.

Mask of Fu Manchu - Charles Starrett is taken to a torture room where, bound to ceiling ropes raising him off the floor, has his shirt ripped off, after which two Asian men flog him rapidly, causing him to rotate wildly. The most memorable part of this scene is a young Myrna Loy (the daughter of Fu Manchu) looking on, aroused. The lash marks are barely visible, but Starrett clearly shows pain while being whipped.

Master of Dragonard Hill - Has several male whippings. Main one is of a middle-aged black man. A long and bloody scene, with several close ups of the man's whipped back.

The Name of the Rose - A Benedictine brother (rather corpulent and repulsive) flogs himself in the privacy of his room in penance for being attracted to a young monk (Christian Slater). Slater, apprentice to Sean Connery's Franciscan priest, accompanies Connery to a medieval monastery where a series of unsolved murders await investigation.

Nevada Smith - A heavy male convict is stripped to the waist and whipped. Several faint marks appear on his back and sides.

Nightmare Castle (aka Night of the Doomed)- Barbara Steele's lover is whipped along with her in the uncut version.

Oblivion - A Native American is placed into stocks and whipped by a dominatrix.

One Man's Hero - Tom Berenger's Sergeant Riley, an exemplary career-soldier and loyal Irish-American, has evaded the Army's desire to hang him (in the climactic final scenes), and is instead sentenced to 50 lashes and branding as a deserter in this tale of the San Patricio batallion whose brave soldiers fought for freedom for Mexico in the Mexican-American war. The scene begins: "39!" sounded from the lips of the shirtless muscular flogger. Berenger kneels at the whipping post. His Irish patriots helped by Riley in their escape from American Army persecution because they were "fresh off the boat, and Catholic," are forced to watch. Berenger had shepherded and stayed with them through their terrible predicament after rescuing them from discrimination and lashing suffered at the beginning of the film (an earlier flogging scene shows six men trussed to the wheels. Only one is being whipped the youngest and he is crying. His back shows the marks of some 15 lashes. Berenger's Riley, releasing them, rides into the night towards their terrible predicament and uncertain fate). Back to the whipping scene: One of Riley's men collapses. Another vomits. By stroke number 45, Riley's back is a mass of blood and we wonder how he could still be conscious. It's pretty realistic. Berenger utters an oath before the last stroke of the whip (a multi-strap instrument) and with it his head falls upon his sweat-drenched chest. The branding is still to come. This film, despite its attempt to satisfy multi-demographics (there is a peripheral love interest for Berenger wonderfully realized with great dignity by Spanish actress Daniela Romo - and a major supporting character, a thief and outlaw, played by Joaquim de Almeida), conveys the ideals of honor, loyalty, and bravery that satisfies in any good war film. Inherited by MGM from defunct Orion pictures, it was initially buried as "anti-American." Due to an Internet Berenger-fan-outcry a minor war itself - MGM recanted to finally release it to a limited theatrical run.

One Eyed Jacks - A bandit character played by Marlon Brando is tied, armed stretched out, to a hitching post by his former gang partner and now respectable sheriff, a character played by Karl Malden. Malden uses the pretext of Brando having just shot a guy in a saloon brawl to publicly punish him; the real reason is that Brando has seduced Malden's daughter. Malden walks up to Brando, rips open his shirt from the back, and whispers in his ear, "Let's see what you are made of." (Brando was already gaining weight when the film was made, so total shirt off probably would not have been pretty.) Malden proceeds to bullwhip Brando in some of the best shots of a whipper handling a bullwhip for actual punishment I have seen on film. Brando's cut back is only seen from afar and above in a few brief shots. Brando does his very best in some frontal shots to look like he is being whipped - a perfect example of method acting even though it is clear Brando has no real idea what a whip feels like. Brando starts the scene on his feet. By the end of the scene he has dropped to his knees in pain. The scene ends with Brando saying to Malden, "You better kill me." Malden looks at him, and says there is no need. He lifts a rifle by the barrel and then in a viscious move slams the wooden butt directly onto Brando's gun hand which is grasping the rail of the hitching post. You can almost hear the bones break. Again, Brando does his very best - which is very good - to look like his hand has just been smashed. A few scenes after of his traveling in pain to a village to recover and of his cut back.

Operation Nam - In a brief scene, a naked, well-built man is tied to a triangle and whipped by his Viet Kong captor. His back an buttocks are loaded with bloody whip marks. A nice scene that should have been longer.

Opposing Force - In the background of one scene we can see a naked man getting a bamboo stick across his backside.

Outlaw of Gor - Tarl Cabot (Urbano Barberini)is teleported to slave planet Gor (based on John Norman's bondage fantasy world). He is captured by an evil Queen and while his girl is forced to fight some lady in leather, the Queen orders Tarl to be whipped in her bedroom until he almost passes out.

Pelle, The Conqueror - A boy whips another boy's bare back with a tree branch in one scene. In another scene, a young boy has his pants pulled down by older boys in a barn. When he reaches to try to pull them up one boy starts laying a horsewhip across his buttocks. He tries to get away from the lashes but he cant move with his pants around his ankles. Much of the this is on-screen, bare buttocks included.

Perceval le Gallois - (Perceval the Welch) In this strange franco-italian movie based on the medaeval text of Chrestien de Troye, Fabrice Luchini playing Perceval is whip as Christ by two men with cats on his bareback near the end. Only front shots and face reactions while the troubadour signers sing. Never see his back.

Performance - James Fox has his shirt pulled up over his head, his briefs pulled down, and is whipped by a bad guy on his bare back and ass as another bad guy holds him down. Brief scene with a few good shots.

Perils of the Darkest Jungle (serial) - A man is tortured by being whipped and branded. I think it was all off screen and we only got to see the marks.

Phantom of Liberty, The - A priest in caned by a prostitute on his posterior in an early scene from Buneul's underappreciated masterpiece.

Pit and the Pendulum, The - The recent version that Stuart Gordon directed begins with a dead man's old bones being flogged! It also has a scene where a boy is held by two men and whipped. In another scene, Lance Henrickson strips and asks a subject to flog him.

Prisoners of War - (aka "Secret of Blood Island") Has two whipping scenes of middle-aged men. In one, we get a really good look at the mans whip marks as he's passed out (but the guard lashes on).

In what looks like Spain in 17th or 18th century, a horse trader, after interfering with a noble spanish man who was to whip a woman in street of a town, is tied facing a tree. He is bullwhipped on his bare back (his shirt being ripped off of his back) by a servant. Mostly side views, but some shots of whip hitting the back, and body and face reaction. The bloody marks look unreal. The whipman seems enjoying his job. Brief scene.

Reflections in a Golden Eye - Marlon Brando gets whipped with a riding crop by Elizabeth Taylor for running her favorite horse into the ground. He is dressed so you do not see any marks.

Revolt of the Slaves - (1961 Italy) Sadistic roman mistress (Ronda Fleming) orders a whipping of a slave( Lang Jefries) who refuses to fight against another slave He is suspended by his arms and stripped to the waist. Than he is whipped with a long bullwhip . The mistress enjoys the slave's punishment. Meanwile the whip strikes some times on his bare chest. Ater a pause for interrogation, she commands the whipping to continue.

Revolution - Al Pacino's son is tied to a cannon and has his bare feet whipped in this boring, horrid wasted of quite a few dollars.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, The - Richard O' Brian, as Riff-Raff, gets a couple of good lashes from Tim Curry, as Frankenfurter.

Rogue Song (1930) - Metropolitan opera star Laurence Tibbits is publicly whipped but goes on singing merrily as if he can't feel a thing.

Salo - Pier Paulo Pasolini's disgustfest has a couple of brief scenes with naked males being bullwhipped. A nasty little number.

Samson and Delilah - Victor Mature is "put to the lash" while turning a big wheel after he is betrayed and blinded.

Sankofa - This African film supposedly has whippings of both male and female slaves.

Saracen Blade, The - A very young and beefy Ricardo Montalban is whipped by the Saracens. We later see a girl tending his cut whipped back.

Savage Nights - contains a brief gay S/M scene in which a chained up man is whipped. Don't really get to see anything, though.

Scalawag Bunch, The - Mark Damon is imprisoned in a dungeon and whipped.

Scarecrow, The- Patrick MacGoohan, by day, is a mild-mannered 18th-century English clergyman. By night, he dons the garb of a ferocious-looking scarecrow to ride the countryside as a latter-day Robin Hood who steals from the rich (many of whom are his parishoners) to help the poor and devises elaborate schemes whereby his rich friends are thworted in their devious and unjust behavior. He also operates an underground escape-railroad for refugees from the King's injustice. One of these is a young man who has escaped the brutality of the British navy. He is an honorable nobleman who was conscripted (kidnapped) for duty. There is no on-screen flogging, but the fellow displays prominently the ugly stripes on his back of many beatings from his days aboard ship. An interesting note here: Walt Disney himself mentioned once that whipping was one of the "acceptable" forms of volence/corporal punishment allowed by the TV censors in America in that period.

Scarlet Letter, The (1995) -Arthur Dimmesdale (Gary Oldman) displays evidence of the lash on his back and buttocks in the swimming scene and in the love scene (visible only in the letterbox version) but we never know who whipped him or the reason for it. Deprivation through terrible editing!

Sea Hawk, The - Male galley slaves being whipped.

Sebastiane - This Derek Jarman classic contains a good whipping. After Sebastiane has been banished to a military camp, he refuses to fight with the others and so the camp commander orders him to clean some swords. Sebastiane throws the swords down in front of the commander and in the next scene he's tied naked to a beam and we see him from above as another naked man flogs him. There's also a shot of his bleeding back.

Sign of the Cross - A boy is whipped in a dungeon. We get to hear the loud whip cracking an cries. He is brought out of the dungeon and laid face down an a table, and we get a good look at his sweaty, lacerated back. Also, the ending has a scene where a bunch of Christians are driven out to the lions by being threatened with whips.

Sinbad - Sinbad (Guy Stockwell) is accused of stealing something (the only thing he thinks to be in the palace) and taken before the princess he loved and the tyran who rule the city. He's condemn to be whipped on the spot where he receive some lashes with a kind of cat, but keeps his shirt on.

Skin Game - Adventures of white and a black conmen in 1850s South. Actor Lou Gossett is whipped by slaveowner "roots style". We see the bullwhip hit his back, and a close up of pain registering on his face. Later we see his whipped back. His friend played by James Garner is later tied to a whipping post and gets a couple of lashes. We see pain on his face as whip cuts around him. He is eventually rescued.

Slave Trade in the World Today - Has a scene where a tribe of men whack each other hard with bamboo sticks. This is the real thing, too. Large, ugly, bloody welts appear on their backs and sides. I think they're all too drugged up to be in any pain, though. The film claims that the men are showing their potential masters the amount of pain they can take. This is really just an excuse to fit this tribes painful ritual into the context of the film. There is also a scene where a stripper in a “secret” Arabian cabaret does a striptease to the sounds of whiplashes.

Son of Captain Blood - Starred Errol Flynn's 20-year old son Sean (who later was kidnapped & killed while covering the Cambodia invasion as a photographer). The captain of a pirate ship, who for years has wanted revenge against the original Capt. Blood, has captured his son, sets him to work catching rats in the bilge. When he rebels, he's hauled up to deck (already shirt-less from working in the sweltering lower deck), and while being held by two shipmates (who steady him by placing a foot on each of his thighs, then spreadeagling him by stretching his arms) is whipped soundly on the back. The focus is on his face -- very intense grimacing, lip-biting -- until the flogging stops with the intervention of a young female captive who begs for mercy. We then see a full-body shot of Sean's chest as he gasps for air and regains his composure. We see a few bruises, and a brief shot of some lash marks as he is taken below, as well as a few scars in a later shot of his bare back, but that level is disappointing.

Son of Cleopatra - Rather than kill another man in battle, a man submits to being flogged. He gets on his knees at a pillar and places his hands into metal rings. Several men on horseback then take turns running their horses up to him and slamming their long whips into his bare back. Great scene, many savage looking marks appear on his back. At the end of the scene he loses consciousness. Later, a we see a woman treating the marks.

Son of Fury - Tyrone does get horsewhipped in this after being knocked face down in a stable. Unfortunately, he keeps his shirt on but there's a brief scene where a woman tends his wounds and then later, when he's gone to the south seas, the chief of the local tribe shows him a boy's whipped back. His response is to tear off his shirt and show his own welts. For this part of the movie he's shirtless all the time so we get a few more glimpses of them.

Spanish Sword, The - This low-budget 1962 British B-movie has a great scene. A strong young blacksmith (Derrick Sherwin) attacks a cruel baron in a medieval village when his lover's father is wounded after defending his daughter's honor. Rejecting the baron's offer to join his army, the outraged youth spits on him. The baron orders him to the whipping post, to which he is bound, stripped to the waist. The baron personally lays on numerous strokes, while the blacksmith defiantly refuses to give in. This is a classic whipping scene, with passion, heroism, and a virile victim. In black & white, but with compensations including a couple of full-body shots of whip contact, facial close-ups, and a several-second shot of the young man's striped and sweaty back (up to 20 strokes, plus a pool of blood on one side of his torso) afterwards.

Spartacus - In the beginning of the movie we briefly see a slave getting whipped.

Spirit, The - Although shown in silhouette and only a couple of lashes, Sam J. Jones gets chest-whipped in (movie of comic book character). Tied rack-like in some sort of warehouse, his shirt ripped open, he displays the welts on his chest in a lengthy (comic-type) interrogation by a woman villian.

Star Slammer - A man orders his subject to flog him. I think it's supposed to be comical.

Starship Troopers - In the next century, teenage Federated squadron leader Johnny Rico, training recruits for battle against giant insects, is involved in a fatal mishap. Rather than being dismissed, he is sentenced to "administrative punishment" -- 10 lashes of the whip. He is brought, stripped to the waist, to a large courtyard in front of hundreds of his fellow soldiers (male and female). Placed under an odd-shaped structure, his wrists are attached to side-restraints, which then rise so that he is fully spread-eagled, toes barely reaching the ground, otherwise fully exposed. His drill instructor places a rubber mouthpiece in Johnny's mouth, and the flogging proceeds. Most of the shots are of the whipping striking Johnny's back, leaving bloody stripes. The camera is on Johnny for seven strokes, including one from the front of him spitting out the mouthpiece, until the fade out. Johnny is played by Casper Van Diem, a blond, slender but well-muscled actor who plays the hero, a rich kid who rebels against his father when he enlists. The scene is in Robert Heilein's book, but director Paul Verhoeven enhances it, not only in terms of plot development (it takes on the air of a coming-of-age event) but also in making sure that he gets the most out of Van Dien's physical appeal (which is enhanced by the way he is stretched).

Street Asylum - Toward the end of this piece of trash, we see none other than G. Gordon Liddy asking to be whipped by a prostute. She obliges, and whips him as he holds on to a desk. Lines of blood appear through his shirt.

Street Fighter - The Jean Claude van Dam one. A sumo wrestler is caned on his bare back.

Strike Commando- Michael Ramsom (Reb Brown) is captured and put through a series of tortures: Beaten on his back with sticks, branded on his back with a blow torch, given electro-shock treatment, made to carry bricks, and spread-eagle in the hot sun.

Strogoff - Early 1970s film starring a young John Philip Law. In one scene he is caught and tortured. The scene shows him tied topless sitting on a chair with his hands bound behind him and his feet bound to the front legs of the chair. The torturer chest flogs him until he faints. He is revived by having water thrown on him, and realistic whip marks cover the front of his body.

Struggle Through Death - This Hong Kong chop-suey movie is basically just an excuse to show lots of male torture scenes. Contains several scenes of men being whipped on their backs and beaten on their bare feet.

Swamp Fox, The - Tim Considine is stripped to the waist and whipped by order of a regional English governor in this tale of the good deads of a militia leader whose first name is Marian (Leslie Nielsen) fighting against the unjust British in their occupation of Colonial America. Considine is a bright young protege of Nielsen's. He infiltrates the governor's operation as a spy. Unfortunately, his cover is blown, and he endures the humiliation of the beating tied to a post on the porch of the governor's lavish mansion

Sword and the Sorcerer - A man is chained in a dungeon with numerous bloody whip marks on his back. We never see any whipping, though. Still, there are a couple of good shots, especially when a girl takes him down.

Sword Without A Country- A man is captured and whipped.

Tank - A male prisoner at a work farm is whipped with a belt by a guard as a demonstration to James Garner of what could happen to his son.

Tarzan & the She Devil - This has a scene in which Lex Barker is whipped by a woman.

Taurus Bulba - A young and handsome Tony Curtis always comes back late to the college where he is studying. One night he is caught coming back after the gates are closed and is brought to the administrator, who asks him to remove his shirt and lie over a table for a flogging. In a later scene some boys in a dormitory wake Tony up and tie him wearing his underwear. The boys whip him, but he is saved by his brother and they escape together.

Ten Commandments, The - John Derek is tied between two columns and whipped by Vincent Price. He stripped to the waist and numerous bloody marks cover his chest and sides.

Terror of the Red Mask - Lex Barker gets whipped, wrist suspended shirtless in a medieval-type torture chamber in. Not a very long scene, three glimpses intercut with a dancing girl elsewhere in the palace.

Tharus, Son of Attila- Tharus is whipped.

There Was a Crooked Man - shows a male prisoner whipped by a guard because he rejected the guard's homosexual advances and told him to, "Go to hell!" The actor whipped is Michael Blodgett. The film (a western) also stars Kirk Douglas and is set in a territorial Arizona prison of the late 1800s. The shirtless prisoner is tied to a whipping post and flogged with a cat. The whipping is very brief, though, because the other prisoners interfere.

Thief of Baghdad (1924) -Douglas Fairbanks is publicly whipped by four men for stealing in the silent version.

Thunder In the Valley - Lon McCallister is the star of this movie and Edmund Gwenn plays his father. At one point, Lon's character commits an act of defiance against his father who decides his son must be punished and instructs his son to take off his shirt and he begins removing his belt. His son starts removing his shirt but tries to reason with his father about being punished. After much dialogue his father puts his belt back on his pants. His son, relieved, asks if his father has changed his mind to which his father replies, "No, I have decided to use the switch instead." His father grabs the switch and flexes it in his hand while his son reluctantly assumes the position on all fours with his bare back exposed.

Tom Brown's School Days - British film made in the 1980's including scenes of caning in a boys'school.

Top Secret - Val Kilmer is tied up and whipped by a couple of Nazis. Very fake, and we only see Kilmer from the front. Played for laughs.

Tower of London - There is a brief male whipping scene in the 1930 version.

Town Like Alice, A - BBC miniseries circa 1980. Bryan Brown, with his hands nailed to a door, is whipped by Japanese prison guards to within an inch of his life - for stealing chickens from the warden of the camp - to keep a group of female prisoners from starving. The beating is brutally graphic. All of the women are forced to watch.

Toy Soldiers - stars Sean Astin as a senior at a military school that has been taken over by terrorists. He is a leader of a group of students trying to undermine the terrorists. Once he is late for dinner because of one of his plots. To try and fool the terrorist commander, he strips and puts a towel around his waist pretending that he lost track of time in the shower. The commander doesn't buy it and leads Sean into the headmaster's office. Suddenly he shoves Sean over the desk and holds him by the neck. He picks up what appears to be a telescoping metal pointer. He pulls it out to its full length and begins to whip the boy on his bare back. Don't get to see much of the whipping but later we see some of his cuts.

Trial, The - A police officer is stripped to the waist and whipped by his boss. Brief scene, kept mostly in shadows.

Trial, The (remake) - Haven't seen this version with Kyle MacLachlan and Anthony Hopkins, but I assume it has a whipping in it. That is part of the story, after all.

Trigger Fast - direct to video western. Gerard Christopher, formerly young Superman in syndication, angers land baron Corbin Bernson. He is strung up in the barn, shirt ripped open at back, and takes a number of strokes of the bullwhip before a maiden intervenes 'lest he die'. Unfortunately co-star Chris Atkins, richly deserving of such treatment, would have been a fine substitute.

True Story of Jesse James, The - (1957) has Robert Wagner with his hands tied behind him thrown to the ground. In order to extract information on the whereabouts of Confederate troops, the back of his shirt is torn open and he is whipped. Of course, he doesn't talk. Afterwards he tears off the remains of his shirt and rides off to join the rebels.

Two Years Before the Mast -- the original story is an epic of written flogging descriptions (non-fiction); the movie version is transformed into a story of a spoiled rich heir (Alan Ladd) who is shanghaied, and transforms into a hero when he takes an undeserved flogging at the grating. This is a classic golden age of Hollywood flogging -- the handsome hero is meant to be seen to his best advantage, which means lots of focus on bare chest and muscle, all heroically endured, but with little lasting damage. Ladd ranks with Burt Lancaster as the two stars most identified with physically masochistic roles; he certainly gave it his all here.

Uncle Tom's Cabin - In the 1980's TV version of the tale, there is a scene in which the title character is whipped on his chest. Grim scene, shot from a long ways off.

Unforgiven - Gene Hackman whips Morgan Freeman with a leather belt in an attempt to extract information from him. Brutal scene, with many bloody marks appearing on Freeman's bare back.

Wagonmaster - (1950) Bad guy tries to rape young Indian girl. To appease the Indians, wagonmaster orders the guy stripped to the waist and tied to a wagon wheel. There he struggles as he receives several lashes on screen. Good scene.

Winnetou and Shatterhand in the Valley of Death - An army officer is captured and then whipped by the bad guys.

Witchcraft Through the Ages (l920) - An older priest harshly whips a younger one for looking at girls.

Without Mercy - Frank Zagarino plays a US marine who falls afoul of a drugs baron in the Far East. At one point he is strung up naked by the wrists and gets whipped with an iron chain by a girl that he eventually gets in the end.

Women's Prisoners of Devil's Island - A man is tied down to a cannon and severly lashed with a cat on his bare back. Shot from a long way off, so we don't get to see much.

Word, The - Man whipped while in prison. Later we see him lying down in bed with the marks on his back.

World in His Arms, The - Gregory Peck whipped

Zarak - Victor Mature gets whipped twice in this. First he's sentenced to be flogged to death for dallying with his father's woman. We see him tied to a well while two men flog him alternately. We see a few welts. Later, when he's captured by the rebels against colonial rule he offers to be flogged to death to give the good guys time to get to the rebels. This is a bit disappointing - the scene is shot from a long way off.

Adventures of Sinbad/The Beast Within - Zen Gesner as Sinbad never had his shirt off . In this episode, Sinbad is held prisoner by Remina, whose father he has slain. Not one to hold a grudge, she wants to marry him. He refuses, she uses her magical powers to prevent his escape; she sends him to her "hobby room." This is a torture chamber, where we see a silhouette of a burly man wielding a multi-lashed whip down on Sinbad. He stops, Remina goes over to Sinbad, who is bound to rack on his back, his shirt opened to reveal his chest, which shows a few bleeding welts. She passes her hand over them. Sinbad maintains a cocky, joking manner throughout.

Against the Wind - Mary is an Irish girl who is sent on prison ship to Australia for her resistance against Englishmen. One or two male prisoners are whipped to death on the board and another woman is also punished. In Australia, Mary works as housemaid and falls in love with a fellow prisoner, who is rather defiant and gets a shirtless whipping in the middle of the town. After that he is taken home half conscious and tended by Mary and one of the servants who applies salt on his back.

The Avengers B/W filmed episode - In a Touch Of Brimstone episode Emma Peel dressed in fancy dress as Miss Sin, spiky leather suit with flesh showing, infiltrates revival of 18th Century Hell Fire club. She is attacked at climax by decadent Peter Wyngrade who hits her twice with a whip. This episode had more whipping but was cut before release .

Big Valley, The - As far as television goes, some of the best whippings were on the western "The Big Valley." I remember Lee Majors being whipped in three separate episodes (once with a shirt on and the other times shirtless). The best scene was in the episode "Legend of a General." Lee (Heath Barkley on the show) is stripped and whipped in a Mexican jail for throwing a bucket of slop on an Army captain after the captain demands Heath to eat it. Oddly enough, we never see the lash touch Heath's back, but we see the shadow of the thongs on his skin as the captain grips the cat tightly and bounces it into his palm (the camera cuts away just after that

The Big Valley - Everyone seems to know about Heath Barkley's three floggings but big brother Jared was also a victim once. He was the lawyer and was defending an unpopular client. In the middle of the night, he was dragged out of his hotel room to somewhere outside of town. There he was tied shirtless to a tree and bullwhipped. We see several of the lashes strike him. Like Heath, he was stoic and didn't utter a sound. I don't believe we got to see much of his back afterward.

Big Valley, The: Journey Into Violence - Another of Lee Major's floggings (again shirtless) was in this story of his being held captive by a religious cult, who takes him prisoner to take the place (at least in terms of labor) of a member he killed in self-defense. When he tries to escape, he is punished with a flogging, tied to a post, while the whole cult watches, including the young widow who has eyes for him. Shot entirely from the front, the flogging is not long, but Lee does walk away painfully, where we see a brief glimpse of scars.

Blood and Orchids - In this made for TV miniseries, three Hawaiian men are tied up and whipped with belts by vigilantes after being accused of raping a woman. Lots of shots of their badly beaten backs throughout the rest of the film.

Bonanza - In one episode later in the series, Ben Cartwright is somehow caught in the middle of a prison riot and held hostage by the prisoners. The warden wants to get Ben out alive, of course, but needs to get someone to infiltrate the prisoners' group to help. David Canary plays Ben's right-hand-man, Canady or Candy and volunteers to be the one to infiltrate. They are concerned that the prisoners might not believe he is really a fellow prisoner. The warden explains that there is a way to convince the cons that Canady is for real "but you're not going to like it" as he holds up some kind of single tail whip. Candy looks grim but after all this is for Ben, so he says in typical 19th century slang, "Whatever." We don't get to see the actual flogging, but in the next scene we see him painfully putting on his prison shirt over his lacerated back. He is then thrown in with the cons who don't trust him until he grandly pulls off his shirt and shows them (and us again) his back. They believe him and Ben is later saved. As I recall Tim Matheson is one of the prisoners. He is shirtless in the first scene and we see his back covered with welts, presumably due to prison justice.

Bonanza - In another episode, Trace Cordell (Tony Young) returns to Virginia City after five years in prison. The townspeople are less than happy to see him because he cripped some big wig. One man warns Trace to get out of town before someone whips him. Trace responds that he was whipped many times in prison and we see his lacerated back after he removes his shirt.

Cadfael: The Devil's Novice - this PBS mystery series set in medieval Wales, included this episode in which Christien Anholt plays a hot-blooded noviciate priest who is flogged amid his colleagues, on an inclining wooden platform, shirtless, by a thick rope. Nicely shot in one circular shot, including views of the others' reactions, the whip striking, the victim's pain; followed by a lengthy scene of Cadfael (Derek Jacobi) cleansing a very striped muscular back.

Captain Cook - This made-for-television movie aired around 1990. It features a marine who is flogged with a cat-o'-nine-tails because he refuses to eat vegetables. He's tied to a grating and there are mostly side views as the lash falls on his bare back. His high-pitched cries are heard, even though he bites down on a leather wedge. There's one closeup of wicked looking scratches on his lower back. In my opinion, the best part is the flogger. His eyes gleam with sadistic fury and the way he shakes the lashes out after each stroke is very deliberate. The cat looks extremely authentic -- has thin, knotted lashes and a sort of crude looking handle.

Cheyenne - This was an early western series in which the muscluar star, Clint Walker, bared his barrel-chest every week. An episode called "The Young Fugitives" was no exception. Cheyenne is ambushed by a group of disguntled ranchers who order him off his horse and to remove his shirt. One of the ranchers asks another to bring up a whip. Next scene Cheyenne is tied to a tree banch, his bare back waiting for the first lash. Unfortunately, he is rescued by friends and the ranchers reluctantly untie the big guy and return his shirt.

Dakotas, The - In one episode, an officer is whipped then another guy about to be at the end of that episode. In another episode of this series, a man is whipped, leading to a fort revolt by the soldiers who take regular Del Stark, played by a very young Chad Everett, prisoner then strip off his shirt and boots and stake him out under a blazing sun for hours in the middle of the fort.

Daniel Boone - Two separate episodes of this TV series. In one, Daniel is whipped by some men in a wagon train trail because they think he neglected some orphaned children who he actually helped (one is played by a young Kurt Russell). Kurt Russell's character interferes after Daniel, who's tied to a tree, receives two or three lashes w/a bullwhip. His shirt is never removed. In another Daniel Boone episode, Daniel is captured by the British and taken to a labor camp. He's flogged (again with a shirt on) before being put to work. The better flogging comes later when a young, husky prisoner refuses to work. He's tied to a triangle and severely lashed with a cat. There are nice shots of his grimacing face and sweaty muscular shoulders and torso

Danielle Steele's "The Ring" - A clothed women is given a couple of lashes by a Nazi in this TV-miniseries.

Dark Prince: Marquis de Sade, The- There are several whippings of topless women in the movie. Originally an episode of "Roger Corman Presents" on Showtime (I think). The women are usually shot from the front, but in one scene we do get to see some savage looking whip marks on one woman's back.

Days of Our Lives (Circa 1982?) - Anna Brady comes back to Salem and claims that she had been kidnapped by white slavers. She has the whip scars on her back to prove it. Not really a whipping scene, I know, but interesting nevertheless.

Dead Man's Walk - shows actor Jonny Lee Miller tied to a wagon wheel and whipped by the Mexican Army. He's shirtless, the punishment goes on for some time and his back (albeit from a distance) looks as though it really had received 100 lashes.

Deputy, The - In one episode the deputy travelled out of town for some reason. He stayed with a nasty rancher who accused him of trying to make it with the rancher's wife. Accordingly he forced him outside at gunpoint, made him strip to the waist, and tied him to a tree. He proceeded to bullwhip him until he passed out. Got to see some bloody welts on his back and later quite a bit of blood on the back of his shirt.

Emmanuelle - The Series episode "Emmanuelle in Venice" (Shown on Showtime in the USA.) A nasty woman whips her maid for dropping her sewing basket on the floor. The Maid is told to get the whip from a hook on the wall and ordered to remove her underwear and bend over the bed. Very pretty woman and senual scene , even though you don't see much of the whipping.

Enslavement - this made-for-cable movie has three whipping scenes (with four total victims). The first whipping scene has a muscular black male slave whipped for sneaking off to have sex with his wife. The second whipping scene has a female slave being whipped for complaining about the unsanitary conditions of the slave infirmary. The last whipping scene has a black male slave whipped as punishment for another slave escaping. This scene also ends with the plantation owner's wife (the main character of the story) trying to protect the slave by getting behind him. The plantations owner whips her once across her clothed back. All three whipping scenes are very good - and the female slave whipping is quite good for a mainstream production.

Escape From Sobibor - A brief whipping of a clothed man in this Nazi escape movie.

Esclava Isaura - Brazilian tv series, with several scenes of whipping slaves, among them the white slave of the title.

Fallen Angels - The episode "The Quiet Room" starring Joe Mantenga and Bonnie Bedelia. Has a scene in which a female detective (Bedelia) interrogates a clothed woman and hits her a couple of times on the back with a rolled up wet towel.

Fantasy Island - One episode of the series had a woman becoming part of a white slavery/prostitution ring. She does something that displeases the woman in charge who decides to punish her. She's taken to a basement type room and told to place her hands through two hanging rings and hold on. Her back is bared and the woman prepares to beat her with what looks like either a thin wooden board or a very stiff leather strap. Nothing is shown, but the beating actually occurs, rather than her being saved at the last minute, as is common in most shows. The name of this half of the episode is called "The Victim."

For the Term of His Natural Life - this mini-series from the 80s has Colin Friels flogged twice. The first time he's tied to the triangle and he get a side view as the cat is laid on. The second time he's made to flog his friend. When his friend faints he refuses to carry on and so must take his place. He defiantly pulls off his shirt and leans against the triangle. They tie him to it and we see him get a few strokes from the front - he's rather stoic during this. we see him later in the infirmary, but don't see his back.

French revolution, The - it's a series produced by french TV to celebrate two hundred years (in 1989) from the revolution: in one episode a woman (french heroine Thoroigne de Muricourt) is taken by some women in a market, bounded, stripped to the bottom and birched, the episode is historical.

Friday The 13th, The Series - The last episode concerned a teacher who had found a way to communicate with the Marquis DeSade. One woman is shown being whipped (only her face is shown and she seems to partly enjoying it) and it's implied that the woman tied up in the teacher's attic has been whipped and abused, but nothing is shown. Robey, one of the stars, goes back and meets DeSade and she even get chained up and has her dress ripped open in preparation for a whipping, but she's saved at the last minute.

Gimme A Break - In one episode, the father is mad at his oldest daughter, Kari Michaelson and he decides that she's long overdue for a whipping. He pulls off his belt and chases her, but she gets away from him and then Nell Carter intervenes and convinces him not to do it. It's noteworthy because it was played very realistically (up until the end when his pants fell down) and Kari looked absolutely terrified. She was also incredibly cute and worn jeans that looked like they were painted on.

Girl, The - (UK tv 1996) A young girl is caught in her stepmother`s room with jewellery in her pocket, the stepmother is furious and tells one of her children to fetch the whip, she then gives her stepdaughter a severe whipping across the bed. later when the girl`s father finds out and sees the marks he is very angry indeed. he goes to see his wife who at this time is laying in bed, he asks her about the incident and she attempts to justify it by saying that it was deserved because the girl is a thief and was chastised for it, he then comments about the severity of the punishment, produces a whip and says: "perhaps you`d like to know how it feels." he then pulls back the covers and draws back the whip, his wife turns onto her side and he administers a severe whipping to her bottom/lower back, she screams loudly and looks in a lot of pain as each stroke of the whip is administered with some vigour by her angry husband. 4 strokes are shown on screen and 2 are heard before the scene changes.

Goodfellows - A British TV series starring Joanna Lumely. In one episode a female agent joins as escort agency to investigate its connection to arms to Iraq. The agency supplies girls who cane their clients. We see her select a cane a later order a man in a mock schoolroom to drop his pants and bend over.

Granada - a TV series, during the Arab-Spanish War in the 15th century, a captured spanish beautiful girl is stripped to the waist, tied up, and whipped with a long cat, in a dungeon, for insulting the arab general: twenty or more strong lashes; later we see her bare back covered with welts.

Greatest American Hero - In one episode of the show, there is a scene where a man has the back of his shirt ripped open and is almost whipped by bad guys, until William Katt saves the day.

Gunsmoke - (guest starring Tommy Rettig of Lassie) An adolescent boy is living with a mean guy - who also turns out to be a crook/bad guy, that week's villain - who pretended to be nice and fatherly to the kid in front of the Marshall, Matt Dillion (turns out the kid is secretly scared to death of the guy - too scared to tell the Marshall). So the Marshall, visiting them and asking a few questions (about the show's plot), gets an answer from the kid that I guess was something the kid wasn't supposed to say, as it would eventually lead to the discovery of this man's real doings. At the time, the marshall doesn't put it all together, gives his regular, friendly farewell to the smiling man and his"boy," but when the marshal leaves, the man looks down at the boy with the meanest expression and the boy kinda puts his head down, knowing he screwed up. Fade in on the next scene: On white knuckles, sweated and gripping tightly around a wooden beam, the loud CRACK! of leather on flesh, then a steady, few more as the camera slowly pans along the hand and arm and then the shirtless, sweaty, welted back of the boy, who is facing a wooden bunk bed in an old log cabin type house, arms spread wide and muscles taunt as he grips two posts of the bunk. By the time the camera is full on the boy, the whipping stops. The mean man, belt longways in hand and breathing from the hard work he just put into the whipping asks the boy: "You had enough, boy!" The kid took a moment to catch his breath stayed in position and answered something like, "Yes, Mr. Jenkins." "Okay, get your shirt on. And next time think before you open your mouth."

Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones - Has a scene where Lavar Burton's dad lifts up his shirt to look at the whip marks some of Jones' guards have given him.

Happy Valley - UK tv movie - Set among British settlers in 1930s Kenya. A bit like that movie White Mischief. Has a scene in which an uncle and his mistress cane across her bottom a sexy and wilfully tempesteous teenage schoolgirl. We see her lay face down across a sofa as at least elenven hard stoke are given as the camera slowly pans away. Later in this film ,off screen she is savagaly attacked with a Sembock, the type of rhino hide whip used by Winnie Mandela on members of her football team.

Harem - (1986) (TV) Jessica (Nancy Travis) is kidnapped and sent to harem of the Sultan (Omar Shariff). Tarik Pasha (Art Malik) that took her captive is later hired to get her out. They fall in love. When discovered, they are taken to the Sultan and Tarik is flogged with long whip (not bound) to confess if he raped her as he insists or if they are true lovers.

Hercules: The Legendary Heroes/ The Gladiator - Kevin Sorbo, as Hercules, is enslaved as a fight-to-the-death gladiator by the rulers of a cruel kingdom. He refuses to kill, however, and is taken to the bedroom of the queen. The dialogue is ripe but knowing: Queen: Take his clothes off. (Guards strip Hercules' shirt off; she fondles his sweaty, buff manly chest). You're a big man; nice muscle tone. (She offers, he refuses her offer to be her "personal slave.) Hercules: I'd rather sleep in a dungeon with rats than share satin pillows with a viper. Queen: Before you get your wish perhaps 40 lashes will bleed the insolence out of you. Hercules is then briefly seen tied to a rack being whipped, but the scene is played with a montage of happy memories (mostly involving women) as we hear whip cracks. We then see him walking in pain back to his cell, with about 6 or 7 bloody stripes on his sweating back.

High Chaparrel, The - A ranch hand given a flogging until Leif Ericson or one of the other leads intervenes.

High Chaparral - There is another episode of High Chaparral that contains a whipping. Manolito Montoya (Henry Darrow) and Buck Cannon are captured by Indians and one of them must prove his bravery. It falls to Manolito who is told his test will probably include some kind of crucifixion since the Indians are fascinated with it. Next we see him stripped to the waist and tied upside to a cross. He is told that a brave man will not cry out. The Indians then come riding toward him on horses one at a time and bullwhip on his bare chest. Many bloody cuts appear but he doesn't cry out so he and Buck are released although he can hardly stay on his horse because he's so weak.

Holocaust - James Woods gets caned by Nazis in this miniseries.

Hunger, The - "River of Night's Dreaming" episode. This episode of the Showtime series shows the aftermath of a whipping of a female servant.

I, Claudius - a banished Queen is whipped before she is sent off. The top of her tunic is removed, baring her back, and an old man whips her back with a large tree branch. The scene is very brief, and we only get to see the woman's shoulders flinching a couple of times.

I Spy - (1960s) Two guys are stripped and tied to a whipping post and whipped in separate scenes. One of them was actor Jack Krushen.

Ivanhoe - miniseries starring Stephen Waddington in the lead who gets tortured by whipping at the beginning and later you see him still chained up with a bloody back.

Jewel In The Crown -UK tv serial 1980s Set during the last years of British rule in India one episode had a detailed Singapore style caning as the method of interogating an Indian rebel. He is strapped across a caning horse and caned , marks shown on his butt, to get him to give information . The cane is of course an excellent instrument for measured pain.

Joseph - TNT TV miniseries circa 1994. As Biblical Joseph, of the coat of many colors, Paul Mercurio endures a brief but furious lashing from a minor servant at the Egyptian Pharoah's Court. Mercurio is not bound (and he is fully clothed), but because of his slave-status, he is forced to cower and endure in silence. The act is prompted by the widespread rumor that Joseph has violated the wife of the Pharoah's right-hand man. Not true, as the well-known tale tells. The woman has made advances towards the comely Joseph, but he has spurned her. So she fabricates a tale of rape and Joseph is imprisoned for several years.

La Femme Nikita: The Series - "Open Heart" episode. Has a scene in which Nikita, who is in a women's prison, is taken to a punishment cell. She's cuffed to a wall and a guard roughly pulls her shirt over her head. The same guard then grabs a long stick and gives her several whacks with it. We only see her stoic facial reaction, though. Later, another prison inmate treats the wounds on her back. Good scene for TV. Laramie - a man is given 40 lashes on an X flogging frame for 'taking another man's woman'. It is shot from a distance. Actually, in this plot, the victim is a stand in for the real woman stealer.

Last Days of Pompei, The - In this short series for TV, we had 2 whipping scenes. First. a heavy built Christian man is birch on his bareback by Roman guards Some good shots of the bloody back during the whipping. Not a very long scene cut by views of Roman governor and Egyptian priest talking. Later a Christian slave is whipped off screen by Romans until he burns incense to pagan gods. We only see his wound bloody back treated by is girlfriend later.

Le ali della Vita (The Wings of Life) -Italian tv fiction: in a school for girls a nun flogs a rebel girl on back, not much to see, anyway

Leaving of Liverpool - 1996 British /Australian A fact based drama about the cruel treatment of children from kids homes shipped out to Oz in 1950s to keep up white stock. In liverpool we see an Irish priest cane a schoolboy very hard until the cane breaks. This is shown in some detail.Later in Oz a teenage schoolgirl is caned but camera stays above action point. Note the Irish Catholic Christian Brothers where notorious abusers of boys in Ireland/Oz and Canada.

Little House On The Prairie - Mr. Olson, the shop keeper, took a heavy strap down from the wall and marched up the stairs with the clear intention of giving both his kids a whipping. There is also an episode that begins with a young boy getting beaten with a strap by his drunken father. Later in the episode the town physician pulls the boy's shirt down and sees the strap marks on his back.

Luke's Kingdom - A 1976 British TV series containing three whipping scenes. The first one is brief and unimpressive. The second one has a young convict sentenced to 50 lashes for trying to escape from prison. He publicly stripped to the waist and tied with his hands above his head to a whipping post. The welts look realistic and we can see blood oozing out on each strike of the whip. The young man screams hysterically whenever the whip lands on his back. He gets only about six or seven strokes. In a later episode we see another whipping scene which is very brief. It shows a man tied shirtless and spread-eagle to a whipping post and getting about three lashes. We see his lacerated back when the camera zooms in on his body.

Man From Uncle - One episode contained a man-to-man scene with the star of Man From Uncle being bullwhipped by Robert Culp, who was a guest star on the show.

Masterpiece Theatre (PBS) "By the Sword Divided" - aired in the 1980's Daughter (played by Lucy Aston) is whipped by her father for not following his orders. She bents over her bed in her night clothes. Love the way she sticks her butt up in the air waiting for her punishment.

Messalina Against the Sons of Hercules - Early in this Hercules movie, the evil queen Messilina askes for a lash and whips one of her female slaves for not holding a hand mirror to the queen's satisfaction. The slave receives 3 or 4 lashes before the queen is interrupted by a male vistor. Great sceen - the queen, slave and whipping are all visible at the same time.

Michele Strogoff, The Courier of the Zar Italian-German co-production of 1999: in a scene the villain (colonel Ogareff) whips a gypsy girl, Sangarre, his lover, on bare back: several lashes mostly taken from the front, but we can see her back covered with bloody marks, actress (Esther Schweins) shows also good expressions of intense pain.

Mission Impossible - tv series of 1988, at beginning of one episode a fat old man whips a fugitive girl, we don't see anything, anyway.

Moses - a minseries starring Burt Lancaster, has two whippings. The first is rather artificial, a slave held by two guards as another flogs him (the usual lipstick marks for welts) but the later one is better, with one of Moses' comrades lashed while tied to a pillar.

Nightmare in Badham County - TV Version - In this one, a different prisoner has the back of her work dress pulled up and gets the strap across her back. Unfortunately, though, we don't get to see much, and the scene is kept very brief. Later, in Deborah's scene, we see the dress torn down her back, and the scene fades before the whipping even begins. Interesting to note the differences in the two versions.

North and South - A female slave is whipped, though nothing is shown. A white women is knocked unconscious and whipped on her naked back by her husband - a few decent whip marks appear. Later Patrick Swayze finds her unconscious body, and we get to see the whip marks again. Pretty good for being TV. Also has a fairly brutal male slave whipping scene. The man's back is saturated with bloody whip marks. After the whipping he is laid down on the ground and we get a good look at his bloodied back.

Pacific Blue - Episode called "Lost And Found." The cops find a runaway girl. When they try to return her to her father, they learn that she's been abused. One of the female cops makes her pull up her shirt and her back is covered with scars. Later her father makes a comment to the fact that he believes in the old adage of "spare the rod and spoil the child."

Passions - In this crazy soap opera, Kay imagines her love, Miguel (Jesse Metcalfe) being whipped by his evil girlfriend.

Paul et Virginie - a french tv series produced in 1974. It's roomed in Mauritius Island, in middle 18 Century: in an episode, an escaped young black slave arrives in a plantation and is helped by the boy and the girl of the title; she only wears a dirty and torn loincloth and has the back and the legs covered with scars and bloody welts, after treatening the welts they bring back the slave to her master with the promise not to flog her again. Later that night, they come back and find the slave tied to a pillory with many new welts of a recent hard flogging. Incredible scene for the period and the target (children), mostly for the nudity and the violence.

The Peacock Spring - There is one Scene in this BBC miniseries where a Girl of about Fourteen Gets a short Whipping from her Cruel young Step-Mother. A Riding Crop is applied across her Shoulders whilst she wears a Blouse, And we later see Several Stripes being treated by her boyfriend's friend, Who happens to be a Doctor.

Perfect Prey - This Made-For-HBO stars Kelly McGillis. She plays a cop out to get the man who assaulted her years earlier. He's still on the loose and tracking him down brings back old memories. At several points we see quick shot of her character being whipped on her (fully clothed) back. There is also one scene where Kelly is wearing a bra, and we can clearly see the scars on her back.

Peter and Paul - TV Miniseries circa 1978. The story of St Paul as he attempts to establish churches throughout Asia Minor, Greece, and Italy. In the Biblical Epistles, Paul chronicles the many beatings he received from unhappy city fathers who saw him as an insurrectionist and troublemaker. Anthony Hopkins, in the title role, suffers under the lash in two scenes. His bound arms encircle a whipping post in a courtyard and he is stripped to the waist. There are many happy onlookers.

Peter the Great - At the end of this tv movie, the rebellous son of Peter the Great is whip on his back (with his clothes on) suspeded by his bound wrists fron a beam while his father watches. Very short scene. See no marks of any kind.

Power of Desire - Brazilian serial has several whippings of both white and black slaves.

Rawhide - a Mexican ranch hand is made to kneel and is whipped on the back. After a time, nearby trailboss Gil Favor (Eric Fleming) says, "He's had enough" to the bad guys, and this stops the beating.

Red Shoe Diaries - "How I Met My Husband" Includes scene in which slinky beautiful masked Domintrix is hitting a good looking man across his back with a riding crop. Filmed from the front so we can't see it hitting his back.

Rifleman, The -Mark (the son) is riding through the countryside and comes upon a scene where a man is being whipped by the local wealthy big landowning ogre for stealing a bottle of wine. Watching from a distance, Mark sees the man being restrained by two other men, one on each side, while being beaten realistically with a longish bullwhip. There are some closer shots.

Ripley's Believe-It-or-Not - One episode had a segment of female flagellants.

Roots - Has several whippings, the most brutal being the infamous one in which LeVar Burton is whipped bloody and being told to accept his new name.

Sharp - British tv movies 11 x 100m Episodes - set during Napoleonic wars. Episodes Sharps Eagle/ Sharps Standard show military 100 lashes .of soldiers at whipping post. No scenes of cat hitting bare back but afterwards we see bloodied backs.

Sin Pecado Concebido - There's a whipping in this recent Latin novella (kinda like a soap opera except that it has an ending). A model is kidnapped by a bad guy. She is chained topless and on her knees. The bad guy whips her as another woman films the savage beating. Several bloody marks appear on the woman's bare back, and there is one great shot of her cringing after one of the whiplashes. The whip hits and sounds are incredibly fake, but this is still a great scene, especially for one that was made for television.

Slave of Dreams - the much stronger of the two recent Joseph in Egypt cable movies stars Adrian Pasdar, a muscular Joseph enduring very hard labor in slavery. After rejecting Potiphar's wife, he is imprisoned, and Potiphar (Edward James Olmos) personally flogs him (stripped to a loincloth, leaning against a pillar, spreadeagled arms held by two men), with a heavy focus on the scars on his back. Olmos plays Potiphar as a man obsessed by Joseph; he also was the Mexican general who oversaw Jonny Lee Miller's brutal flogging in Dead Man's Walk, another case where his character's apparent distaste for what he was doing didn't keep him from vigorously doing it.

Soldier of Fortune, Inc. - "Hired Guns" episode. Great whipping scene for TV! The entire team is captured by a corrupt African dictator. Margo, the female member of the team, is singled out for interrogation. She's cuffed to a whipping post in a private cell. The back of her shirt and the back of her bra are removed to expose her bare back. The dictator does a short "flogging" speech and the whipping begins. Only one stroke on screen. In a couple of shots we can see some welts on her upper back, but there are no good close-ups of her whole back. Also, the scene is very dark. She refuses to speak, so the whipper ends up trying to rape her, at which time she is, of course, rescued. Also of note is the fact that the episode ends with the dictator tied to the post and stripped to the waist as his oppressed people storm the compound.

Star Trek: Gamesters of Triskelion - Kirk is bullwhipped by one of the gamesters In a later scene there are some marks on his back that look like red lipstick.

Star Trek: Patterns of Force - about a planet where modern day Nazi's rule. When Kirk and Spock are captured they are whipped for information and Spock's stripes are green (Vulcans have green blood) while Kirk's are red. An interesting detail that the director did not fail to note.

Swamp Fox - Disney TV series starring Leslie Nielson. In one episode, the nephew of the Fox takes a fancy to some local girl (he wants to show her his new custom frock coat -- part of his uniform) and somehow tangles with the British and the evil General Tarleton. Well, he's captured, taken to some mansion and is interrogated with the help of a bullwhip. The scenes are pretty extended. The lad has his new coat ruined by the whip for starters and then is made to remove his shirt.

Tarzan: The Epic Adventures - Episode Unknown. Joe Lara as Tarzan is the prisoner of a beautiful evil queen who craves his powers. He is chained (while standing) hand and foot to the floor of temple chamber. When he refuses to submit to her, two guards wearing head masks enter and proceed to flog him vigorously with leather whips; we see him from the front, and then focus on his face as he grimaces in pain. Later, Tarzan, back in his cell, has several ugly bleeding welts on his back, which a woman treats with some sort of salve.

Terror on Track Nine - This is a made-for-TV movie starring Joan Van Ark as a TV News commentator who is following recent murders of old, homeless women throughout the City. Near the end of the movie she is providing an update of the murders when she "spaces" back to her homelife when she is 17 or 18. Her parents are Menanites and very strict. She has been out with a guy, defied her father's orders, etc. Joan Van Ark's flashback shows her tied to a post in the stable with the back of blouse torn off and we see her bare back exposed to her father. The camera switches from her bare back to his upper torso where we see the bullwhip in his hand. The camera than switches to her mother who has walked in and does not defend her daughter or try and stop the flogging. The next scene shows a shadow of the father applying the whip, then the girl's scream, which turns out to be Joan screaming and clutching her back while on camera. At that point, everyone realizes that Joan is the killer of these woman who reminded her of her mother, who did nothing to stop the flogging. .

Three Sovereigns For Sarah - This exquisite retelling of the Salem witch trials has an early scene in which a slave is whipped with a tree branch by her master. Later, the same slave has been arrested for witchcraft. She has been whipped off-screen and shows the marks to Vanessa Redgrave.

Timeless Land, The - An early eighties Australian TV mini-series. The ad for it features a picture of a topless women being lashed at a cart tail. . This was shown on The History Channel in 1997. Keep checking your TV listings for this one. .

Tom Browns Schooldays - late 1970 or early 80s BBC serial made on video. Unlike two b/w movie adaptions of Thomas Hughes semi-biographical 19thc novel of life at Rugby public school this features some good on screen canings. Historically it was a birch. We dont actually see the cane hit the victims bottom but we do see it swish down as they lay face down across a bench. Major caning action. Due to its content this daytime serial was never repeated but caning extracts have been used on two BBC documentarys on caning..

Two for Texas - A made for television TNT orginal opens with a whipping in an 1830s Louisiana prison camp. A white convict (laying on the ground at gunpoint) is approached by a burly African American who holds a curled bullwhip. He unfurls it upon the man's bare back two or three times before the scene cuts away to something else. The convict wears a shirt that has been ripped away to expose his back.

Wagon Train - In one episode, dashing scout Flint McCollough (Robert Horton) lands in hot water. He is whipped and then thrown off the wagon train. In a later episode, Duke Shannon (Denny Miller) is whipped off screen but later we do get to see a little of his back and hear him suffering.

What's Happening!! - Ernest Thomas does something wrong and gets a belt whipping from his mother, Mabel King. Nothing shown, but later he's lying on his stomach on the bed, rubbing his butt and looking like he's in real pain.

Wild Wild West - (TV series), James West was captured and tortured at least once an episode, usually shirtless with his tight pants pulled up to cover his navel. Once he was tied to a T-shaped whipping post along with another man to provide amusement for his captor. His friend was whipped, but West escaped before any whipping.

The Witches of Salem - (l971) TV movie opens with a young man in the stocks being whipped and then cast out of the villiage. The film has tremendous performances by the young actresses playing the parts of the "afflicted" children. What could have been done with this kind of talent and a decent budget!

Women of Valor - The first shot of this made-for-TV movie shows a woman getting out of a shower with scars on her back. Supposed to be Susan Sarandon. Later, though, we get to see how she got the scars. Susan is tied to a post in the middle of the camp for sneaking off to see her dying husband. She has the lower half of her shirt ripped open and is whipped with a bamboo stick by a guard. The whipping is stopped after ten or so strokes, and there is one side view shot where she limply hangs from the post and we can see a couple of the whip marks. Very brutal and realistic scene. There are also many various scenes of women getting briefly hit with sticks by guards.

Xena (Remember Nothing) - A tall, muscular man, half-kneeling with wrists bound to a long table, is flogged on his bare back by a soldier. This is a vigorous whipping, with face, chest and back views (including a closeup of contact leaving bleeding welts), as well as a flogger who is really into it. There is also a scene in this one where Gabrielle is a slave. She shows Xena some whip marks on her shoulder.

Xena (The Reckoning) - Xena is chained up in a dungeon. She is whipped with a riding crop once by a man, who spend the rest of the scene punching her instead of whipping her. She finally breaks her bonds, of course, and starts kicking some ass.

Young And The Restless, The - In the popular soap opera, handsome Matt Miller (Robert Parucha) recalls a time that he was captured by guerillas and whipped. Unfortunately, We don't see the whipping but we do get to see his face as we hear the whip cracks and him crying out.

Young Catherine - (1991) TV-Movie (TNT) A young Julia Ormond plays Catherine. She poses as a Royal Guard in an attempt to arouse her frigit husband. It works , but he turns out to be a little kinky and wants to whip her with her own sword. He applies to smacks to her bottom. Minor scene.
